Default Factory wheel size

What was the original wheel size for a 2001 Ram 2500 4X4? Is it 16x6 or 16x7 or 16x8? The reason I ask is that I see suposedly "factory" wheels in all those different sizes.

Thanks in advance.

16x6.5 if steel or chrome/steel

16x8 if aluminum

Only the 1/2 ton aluminum wheels were 16x7

Do either rim size take the same tire size? The reason I ask is that I want to get some aluminum factory rims and swap them with my steel rims but I don't want to replace the tires.

Thanks

The 1/2 ton aluminum 16x7s WON'T fit on your truck. They're a 5 lug rim...you have an 8 lug hub. What size tires are on your rims right now? They should fit the 16x8s, but they might be a little too narrow. [>:]

My tires currently are LT245/75 R16. They are on the chrome factory wheels, but I am not sure what width they are.

Default RE: Factory wheel size

Just to resurrect this topic one more time (sorry), my '96 2500 has chrome factory 16x6.5 inch wheels with 245 75 r16 on them and the truck that I just bought ('01 2500) has 265 75 r 16 tires on the stock steel wheels with chrome rings. I want to swap the wheels but I am concerned that the 6.5 inch chrome wheels are too narrow for the 265's.

So... good, bad or otherwise indifferent?

Thanks in advance,

amajamar
