Default have some questions !!!!! please.......

hey everyone, its my first post here, i am a potential owner of a 1999 ram sport reg cab short bed with a 5.9. its in really awesome shape its yellow and looks brand new, it has k&n gen 2 intake, 72k miles, tint, 3.92 posi in the rear, all new brakes: rotors and pads and everything, and always taken care of for $7500. now my questions are: Is this a good deal? , my recently deceased truck (lol) is a 2001 silverado ext cab w/ 5.3 and diablosport programmer, how do you think the ram would keep up with the silverado performance wise? the silverado base hp was 290 and the ram is like 250 i think, but is also in a smaller truck than the ext bad chevy. well anyways i just wanted to get some opinions from you guys and hopefully help me make a decision between this truck and a 1970 c10 w/ a 383 stroker with 438 hp but the kid is like 3000 miles away and having some issues with the engine right now soooo i guess we wil see. all right i will shut up now. thanks for reading
Justin

$7500 for 72k miles.. isnt bad.

overall i'd say that it could come close to the silverado, but there will be that difference.. its all driver preference... throw a chip in and it might help.

the 70 sounds good, but engine problems off the start isnt a good thing.

i could probably offer him 7000 he says 7500 OBO but i gotta think about it but yeah the silverado was pretty damn fast for an ext cab, it had 3:73 gears k&n filter and smaller alt pulley, just some minor things then i had it custom tuned by diablosport, i raced a lot of cars not usually won but off course they werent like extremely fast cars i raced a few modded rice burners one night and killed them all lol, i kept up with a mustang gt pretty good one time and then raced a modded 04 gto that just spanked me hard lol and also 2 rx8s which arent that fast but i left one in the dust from the start and then my friend wanted to go from 60 on the highway and i killed him everytime, man i miss that truck lol i wish diablosport made a tuner for the ram cuz i still have mine and i could probably get them switched out. but anyways about the 70, i guess i wouldnt say that theres engine problems but what he told me was there was ticking when he got on it and then he feels only like 180-200 hp and he thinks its misfiring and the plugs are bad and also i guess the wires. he just installed it so maybe hes just gotta work out the kinks or whatever. i have never installed an engine before so i have no idea.

Well Hey, we're all Ram guys here. I had a buddy who had an '01 chevy with the 5.3, and I'd have to say that that is a complex and hi-tech engine. We built our trucks up together, helping each other out, and almost going part for part in the aftermarket world. When we were done, naturally, we had to go head to head, and not only did I edge out his Chevy, I spanked it. The thing is, when you buy a mopar such as the Ram, you can gain a tremendous amount of power in the aftermarket world, but with the chevy they've already nearly maxed out all the power you can achieve with the 5.3(not to mention, his parts were harder to find and more pricy). And as you have already heard from the guy with the '70, there is trouble ahead for you, sounds like your initial investement of buying the truck might only be the beginning(to costly for a cool truck). And with the same amount of money, you could easily boost the Rams power above 350 ponies and purchase a more reliable truck.

it looks like you're looking for a truck to race on the stret. why, then, are you looking at a 5000 pound solid axle Ram?

if you really want to be the fastest on the street, find one with 2wd. less weight, can be easily lowered a few inches for better handling.
the motors in these trucks are designed for mid range power and longevity, not for screaming the crap out of to shave an extra tenth of a second of your 0-60 time.

and unless that kid has a ton of chassis mods to that '70 $7000 is a huge rip.

well thats why im coming here to get some info but i didnt know it was a 4wd i assumed it was 2wd, and also i figured since its a 360 its a pretty good size to work with and put some power down. the guy selling it said he lowered it 2 inches in the back also. im not really looking to be the fastest on the street i just like to surprise people like cars that think a truck would be slow and then beat it lol.
the 1970 c10 is all fixed up, all body work done, and going to paint it, airbag suspension, fuel cell, built and blueprinted engine, etc.
well thanks for your input and please reply again if you have more advice

Well the only advice I could give is MOPAR OR NO CAR!!

Seriously its all about how you want to spend your money. My Ram gets an average 12 MPG my Ol'Mans Silverado gets 19MPG and at $2.85/Gal. thats a huge deal. There is alot more you can do with the 2nd generation platform. The 5.9 motors basically have been around for ever. I'm ASE Certified and I know that the new generation Chevys are pretty much maxed out from the factory. The good ol 350ci days are gone! However talk to a diehard CHEVY fan and it is the only way to go. I was a FORD guy until my first dodge and besides it not driving past to many gas stations I don't think I would ever go back. The '70 C10 is way cool but my guess is after he stroked it he was cheep and ran regular gas in it and messed it all up. Good Luck on your decision. Also I have stomped rice burners with my Dodge and at about 6200 lbs with my fat *** in it thats awsome!

so pretty much id probably be happy with the ram as i was with the speed of the ext cad chevy right ? and is the truck 2wd or 4? cuz it doesnt say 4x4 or anything and he didnt say it was a 4x4. anyways here is a link to see the 1970 c10 but no pics of the engine.
1970 c 10 im still waiting to hear from him, he just installed the engine last week so we will see, but im gonna have to decide soon cuz i know this dodge ram isnt gonna last long, the guy just put an ad on truck trader and autotrader online. thanks for you input.
