Default Computer Question

Is it true that if you disconnect the battery cables for about 10 minutes the computer will reset itself? Is this useful after installing an aftermarket part like my exhaust or a CAI?

You usually have to leave it disconnected a little longer than 10 mins.

Not sure you'd have to do it for a CAI or exhaust though. [&:]

It's best to do it with any performance mods...it allows the PCM to "relearn" new values for air/fuel ratio, IAC position with freer flowing intake, etc. I have no links, just knowing about fuel trim, IAC counts and such, it only makes sense to me.

So does anybody know how long I should leave the battery cables disconnected for it to work?

The procedure I was told to follow to reset the computer is this:

Disconnect the battery.
Turn the ignition switch to START and hold it for 15 to 20 seconds.
Turn the ignition switch to OFF
Reconnect the battery.

all it is doing is letting the residual charge that is stored in all the capacitors in the computer discharge.

by just disconnecting the battery it does it.. and apparently turning it to start will too.. i just wonder if that might try to run the starter...

hmm gonna have to give it a try now..
