Anyone take off the "4X4" and "DODGE" stickers on the tail gate? How'd you do it? How about the badges and the door & bed trim?

 

ive used a heat gun and works wel in the past... just be carefull not to get the paint too hot or it will bubble and peel and look nasty

wait to see what else everyone else has done to debadge

 

in the wintertime vinyl comes right off with careful maneuvering of a boxknife. i removed the dealership badge. bastards make a truck look bad with their business name on it.

 

This is not a hobby to me, I just need to get me and my tools to work everyday, so I have to ask, what is the appeal with the debadging? My white dodge ram came debadged and being ignorant about this, I almost didn't want to buy it, suspecting it may have been fixed and repainted after an accident.... if you ever plan to sell it, be ready to do a carfacts report on it for someone because a non-hobbyist might see it as I did. Anyhow, they did a good job and the paint did not peel and I would imagine a heat gun WAS used. It left no marking or even fading, but... I knew they did it because if you have headlights on the tailgate in the dark it can be seen slightly. I was actually relieved to find that out accidentally

 

I was going to de-badge my truck and was planing on using a hair dryer, but the wifes out of town (she took her hair dryer) so I'll have to wait. I've used a hair dryer in the past, it's more work than a heat gun but less likely to over heat and peel the paint.

 

i just did mine a few weeks ago. cant get the tailgate logo off as it was taped over when repainted, but the ram 1500 and v6 emblems were no problem. i just poured a generous amount of goo gone on the top of it and let it sit for about 15 minutes. then used dental floss to get it to start lifiting off. once i culd get my fingers under one side they just pulled right off.

dont use anything luke a nylon zip tie. it left some nasty scratches on my door.

 

i just peeled my stickers on the tailgate off by hand.. started with a hair dryer but was taking to long.. just get the sticker started to peel with a razor blade then just pull it off by hand

 

tip: i have never done this before, but I've got good hands at many things. razorblade sounds like it would work, BUT, go very slowly and lightly and keep the blade almost parallel to the surface as opposed to perpendicular... the goo gone sounds great, I use it for all sorts of things and I'm suprised it didn't pop in my head immediately. It breaks down adhesives such as the glue on the backside of the vinyl letters very well.

 

question, did the goo gone fade the paint or discolor it in any way?

 

a razor would be way to risky for me Goo gone wont do anything to the paint.
