S&B Intake UPDATE
Does anyone have any experience with S&B intakes for our trucks? I have an oppurtunity to pick one up pretty cheap, the thing that makes me nervous is that it uses a sealed box that draws air from the stock fender location. If I am going to spend the money on one I want the most possible performance increase. I am partial to the FIPK II just because of all the good things I have heard, so if this S&B kit isn't worth it then I'll just save and spend the money on the FIPK. Any feedback would help thanks.
Edit: Here is S&B's website with the system, the instructions are really good and show what it looks like installed.

If you are looking to get cool air into the engine, this would be a good choice. I ran some tests in the early spring where I measured the air temperatures with the air coming from different locations. Pulling the air from the fender was just as good as bringing it in from the front like the K&B FIPK setup. Here is the link to my post: https://dodgeforum.com/m_403189/tm.htm
With pulling the air from the stock location, the air is coming up from around the wheel and is isolated from the engine compartment. There is also less risk if getting rain water and bugs in from this location.
I like the setup, but can't comment on the product itselt. It appears to have a connector to hook in your breather pipe and the top looks like it is sealed with a see-through panel. That way you can check the condition of the filter and make sure it is still in place. I can't tell if it has a flexible coupler. That might be important, because if you get enough flex in the engine, it could pull something apart or cause the tubing to crack. Just some thoughts before you go spending the dollars.

mainly what thats gonna do is eliminate the restrictive intake tube and intake hat frome the stocker.. a straigh smooth tube is almost better then a bent tube .. and as long as it has a high flow airfilter then i would wreckin it would run nice
Please let us know if you do indeed run this system and how it performs. It looks like a sound system. I actually like how it pulls the air from the stock location and it is in a sealed box. This seems great for off roading, plus you should effectively limit the heat "pollution" from thr engine bay. The straight design looks as if it would be very easy to insulate to provide even cooler air as well. I am seriously considering this set up for those reasons.
I went ahead and put this system on my truck about a month ago, and I could definately feel the difference in the butt dyno, along with a 2-3 mpg increase (when I keep my foot out of the pedal)
I'd definately reccomend this setup...it took me about 20 min to install and I didnt have to move anything around

I have a 2WD so I don't know how helpful I will be when it comes to the off-roading factor, but I bought the intake today so I should have it very soon. It looks to be pretty straight forward when it comes to installation. I'm not sure if I like the fact that it is sealed or not. I guess if I don't like it I can always sell it lol. I know its gonna be harder for me to install because I mounted my MSD box right where the airbox goes. Anyways I'll let you all know how it goes.
Well I got the intake on Friday and it looks like a good quality product. I will be installing it on Monday, since all my tools are at school and that will be the soonest I can get to it. I'll post some pics of how it looks installed and let you guys know how well it does as far as mileage and performance once I get a few miles on it and the computer learns it.

Please keep us updated. I'd like to know how it works out. Is it cheaper than the K & N?
