Stock rockers are 1.6 ratio. There is a couple advantages of going to a 1.7. First, it increases power by reducing friction (because of the roller tip design versus the stock which are not roller tip), and it adds higher lift to the valve. This extra lift adds more duration, kinda like having a cam. Some people call it a poor mans cam. I like to think of it as getting an upgrade to roller tip and fulcrom, and more duration, all in one mod. If you do a cam, you still have the stock rockers, so you have to do another mod to get rollers, even if you stay at 1.6, which is what is recommended if you plan to go with a cam.

I am interested in the viper rockers. I checked at the dealership I think they said they were less than $7.00 a piece. What about the studs and adjustment?

ive heard when you/if you go to a roller cam with even somewhat of a mild grind on it you have to stick with the stock 1.6 ratio or aftermarket RR 1.6 ratio.. b/c with the added lift and duration with the cam and then if you tried to put in the 1.7's the travel is too far for the vavles/springs and your heads get pretty pissed off.. and break stuff..

for the roller part of the rollerockers.. the roller tiped ends reduce friction when they rock back and forth.. along with their desighn .. they have a sleeve and pivot point instead of just and indent where the they rock back and forth on the stud.. less friction makes more power.. and with the added travel and duration of the 1.7 ratios (meaning 1.7 units of travel for every 1 unit of push by the push rods) allows more for air flow..

im not sure but.. silver did your motor idle like a it would with a mild cam in it? ive heard the idle gets choppier when the 1.7's are put in..

1.7's paired with a highflow set of heads and a good port polish job would do wonders to breath in and exhale for the top end of the motor..

i just bought a turbo and intercooler.....
ooooo .. im very interseted in this.. what are the plans? obvioulsy hits is gonna be a DIY/custom turbo application .. unless you found a vendor thats making turbo systems for 2gen magnums.. reason why this peeked my pickle is b/c i just got done riding around in my buddies neon with a stage 3.. he showed me the dyno sheets and never thought a neon would make 600HP at the wheels.. and in 3rd gear can break the tires loose and roast them doing 40 mph.. you know what they say.. turbos are "free" power and not to jack this dudes thread.. wanna start one up?

I have a '01 dodge ram 5.2L 4wd. I ordered up a set of the harland sharp roller rockers and I got the 1.7's. I had no plans on putting a cam in so that is why I went with the 1.7s. Well i get them in and didnt reallly notice a lot of difference. Then I found a really good deal on a brand new mopar R/T cam. I called around to some places and found out that it would work with the 1.7's but is as big as I can go with haveing the 1.7's. So I ordered it up. I got all new valve springs, retainers, clips, seals, and I pulled the heads off and had them magnafluxed. Also when I put the cam in I removed my M-1 intake and put the stock intake back on but I modified the runnners first to make them shorter. ANd I also made a aluminum belly pan to go on the intake Ever since all of this I love it. This is the mods that I have noticed a REAL diffference with. And it doesnt lope a lot at idle but it does a little bit. Especially when I have the exhaust cut outs opened up.

It doesn't lope like a cam really, but it is a little choppier like you say. I thought it was my plugs at first, so I changed them to see if that made a difference, but it was the same. Kinda like a very very mild cam. If it had just a little more duration, it might lope like a cam does.

That's interesting about the R/T cam working with the 1.7's. I had also heard that the R/T cam would work with 1.7's since it is not a real aggesive cam. I might have to find one and swap it in to see if it makes any difference.

Were R/T heads different then regular heads? I have read that they are actaully the same, and I have also read that they are not. What's the truth about that?

Not that I noticed. If I keep my foot out of it, there was no change that I could tell really.

I didnt really notice any. When I first got my truck I was getting about 8 with 38" tires and 4:56 gears. THen I added the RR's, M-1, Headers, true dual exhaust, 14X4 round air cleaner, and eletric fans and all of that got me up to 10MPG. Then I put 40's on it and went back down to 8. [:@]
