I used a chain saw sharpening file (can't remeber what it's called at the moment) to file out the bolt holes. I did mine a little at a time, but my sensor is pretty easy to get in and out so I didn't mind having to pull it out a half a dozen times. I heard of a couple people using a Dremel to grind out the holes.

Ok so the bracket is on the sensor and the bolts go through so you grind out the holes on the sensor? Then slide the sensor towards the oil filter.

yup. i had my brother lay under the truck and guide me. I used 2 extensions for my socket wrench with a u-joint inbetween. once i got it off i cut the holes out with a dremmel cutting disc and slotted the holes all the way through. then slide it to the oil filter if you go towards the intake you retard it. only cut it out in one diresction though so if you screw it up you can always put it back to the way its supposed to be. real easy and didnt take long at all.

There's a picture of mine further up in this post if you haven't seen it. I didn't grind mine all the way out. I left a little bit of metal on the outer edge.

If you attempt this mod
be aware that the crank position sensor
is very sensitive to the clearance between the end of the sensor and the notches it reads.

If you slot the holes to move it
and the new mounting point either lifts it slightly or lets it seat deeper
you will have problems.
As HankL has stated you are taking some risk in this mod. A lot of the time when I mod something I half expect to be forking out the money to fix what I f***** up. Just a little something to keep in mind. Now that I've said that, it definitely helped my truck and haven't had any problems, but it's only been a month.

so your sayin make sure we dont move it up or down at all, just left to right? and yall are sayin AWAY from the intake, TOWARDS the oil filter advances it, correct?

and also theres something about the rubber grommet i dont understand.... is it basically something that acts as a gasket of sorts??

edit- also i just went out there and looked for it, and cant seem to find it. where is it in relation to the oil filter? sorry for so many ?s about it guys, thanx.

Correct.

I understand that people just remove and chuck the grommet.

With the grommet still in place you won't be able to move the sensor much, if at all.

Here's a view of the sensor, looking up from underneath the truck past the exhaust on the passenger side. It's right at the back of the passenger side head and slides into a hole on the edge of the transmission bell housing. You can only really see the bracket and the wires as the sensor is basically inside the bell housing.

It essentially advances your timing. I did it on my '98. If you have pinging it'll make it worse.

It's for all V6/V8 Magnums. If you are already experiencing pinging ... you can reverse the procedure (slot and slide the CPS towards the intake a LITTLE at a time) to retard the timing. Only do this after trying all other remedies (colder plugs, 180* thermostat, TSB 18-48-98 [plug wire re-routing], TSB 09-05-00 [plenum gasket check and repair], etc.) as the results are like a mini death flash (but you might just save your engine).
