crank sensor mod question
ok if this advances the timing would it be a good idea to do this with a performance pcm or a programmer? or would this advance the timing to much?
and does this make you lose power on the top end because of to much advance?

WHen making this modification you want to elongate the holes in the CPS bracket so the CPS will follow how the flex plate ( flywheel to old school guys ) spins between the engine and transmission. The CPS sits above the flex plate and reads the openings in the edge of the flex plate to detemine timing. If you remove the grommet and elongate the CPS bracket you can move the CPS toward the oil filter ( still maintaining the above the flexplate position ) and the timing will be advanced. If you move the CPS away from the oil filter you will be retarding the timing.
If you grind out the holes too much and allow the CPS to move forward toward the engine or backward toward the transmission you will lose the spacing necessary for the CPS to pick up the openings in the flexplate and the engine won't run or if it does it will run extremely lousy. The only solution to this problem is to buy a new CPS.
The "Death Flash" was put into the Magnum Engine to retard the timing 4 degrees thereby reducing engine pinging with low octane fuels. The CPS mod when you advance the timing will bring the timing back to where it was before the flash. If you encounter pinging then you need to move the CPS back away from the oil filter ( retard it ) until the pinging is gone. This will be your optimum setting for this mod.
A performance PCM may require you move the CPS back to factory position as that is where it is expecting the flexplate opening/CPS pickup to be timed. I do not know what the effect is with any ofthe available programmers.

thats really weird, i was prepared to do this to my truck, i went out there with my tools and found the sensor, and my bracket is completely different looking, everything down to the HEX bit bolts that gold it on, my bracket is thicker, prob not gonna be able to bore out the holes on mine... weird, anyone know what the deal is?
i have a 95 dodge ram 1500 5.2

yeah same thing here went ahead and took it off and everything and found out the the mount is different and very fragil plastic. so i just decided to stick it back in thier. I guess its only for 98 and newer rams
