Default TPS, VSS and Engine Pre-Oiler w/Remote Filters

2001 3/4 ton V-10

SO...after doing searches and coming up with a great number of threads on the dreaded Dodge auto tranny TC lock-unlock syndrome, and having the unfortunate syndrome myself, I replaced the TPS. Initially the truck was cold, and at the first start with the new sensor installed, the rpm's went to 1500 and stayed there. I thought it was warming up so I went in the house for jag while waiting. I heard the engine slow down and begin hunting for a good spot to rest, and after 5 minutes or so, settled down at 700 rpm's. This only occurred at the first start with the new sensor, and hasn't occurred since. The new TPS seemed to fix the problem until the engine is warm, but I still have the annoying 200 rpm up-down-up-down until it finally decides to lock. I have turned off the O/D and it has no effect. My next step will be to replace the VSS as my Haynes sez the VSS is primarily to sense vehicle speed and lock/unlock the TC. We shall see. The truck goes in and out of cruise control no problems. Soon I need to get it into the shop to replace all the fluids with Amsoil before it gets cold here. I'll do the fluids and new filter with adjustments of the bands too.

Anyone installed remote oil filters? Since I have an Amsoil dealership, I can get the packages for cheap. I am seriously considering this and also installing a pre-oiler. Pre-oilers are most commonly found on large diesels and aircraft engines. A unit I found at http://www.infinityaerospace.com/ is only $239.00 plus the hoses and fittings;say $275.00 installed. This is about the cheapest I have seen. Amsoil has an electrically operated unit that squirts 100cc back into the lines, that isn't really much at all. About 1 cup, and costs $300.00. The genuine aviation preoilers cost over $2k so they are out.

Has anyone else thought of doing this?

Comments appreciated.

Nope. Don't know how to do that, nor do I know what equipment I need or where to get it. Can you give advice?

Thanks.

Nope. But I will since you mentioned it.

Can you tell me what these are in your sig? "tps and iat mods"
And can you recommend a comp reader so I can look at any engine codes?

Thanks.

The IAT mod is moving your intake air temperature sensor from your intake manifold to a cooler location, usually the intake tube on an aftermarket CAI, this gives the truck's computer a colder reading and it will give the truck more fuel. I know the TPS mod is setting the Throttle Position Sensor to a higher voltage than stock, which will give you better throttle response. Here is a link to a site with lots of information on those mods.

there is another thread on this forum where a member found a wire in the tranny that was shorting to gnd, I didnt save the thread but if you search for it you maybe able to find it, it was within the last 8~10 months IIRC.

on the pre-luber, heres one kit that I found... http://www.pre-luber.com/preluberkits.htm i'd considered this for my ram but it's pretty expensive and I may do it at some point in the future.

I've heard a faulty brake light switch will cause the tc. to unlock.
