[&:] should have known...

did you reseat the connectors on them? is there a chance your pinched a wire and it could be intermittantly shorting out? that could be why it's running like crap.
Yeah, I checked both on the board here and performed a Google search. I will checked the wires, and per another thread on here involving a 1998 Ram, I will clean the connectors and coat them with dielectric grease. I cleared the code out last night anyway. I figured other people may have encountered this problem.

the thought just occured to me that your CE light may have not been lit yet while the crank & cam sensors were intermittant. with only 200 miles on it, it may have taken that long to realize there was a problem.

As the updated title states, my truck is running and it's running AWESOME. I had a new exhaust system installed this morning. I opted for a regular catalytic converter, 3" out to a Magna-Flow muffler, and then 3" exhaust routed out. The moment he fired up the truck it has a nice, throaty (but not overbearing) growl. Merely driving through the streets of Norman, Oklahoma, I noticed a HUGE difference. The truck responded and shifted so much better that I cannot begin to describe it. On the way home, I took State Highway 9, east, to my house. On a few hills I mashed the throttle and it responded by accelerating and pulling. It was not bogged down, stalling, or stuttering. Now I know what bad/no maintenance does to a vehicle's overall performance.

I have also resolved the issue with the leaking fuel system. My 1997 Dodge is supposed to have a vent/rollover valve installed on the fuel pump. The hard nipple that comes out of the top of the fuel pump, and is connected to a semi-rigid line inside of the fuel assembly, is to allow easy siphoning of fuel. I went to a different dealership and found a mechanic who understood my problem and we diagnosed why the fuel pump I built is not correct. It does not have the provision for the rollover valve, whereas how I bought it from E-Bay did. I now vaguely remember there being a rollover valve on the fuel pump assy when I removed the tank. I bought a valve and am waiting for a grommet, which will be in on Monday. [sm=badbadbad.gif]

I also "lucked out" by purposefully driving around with as little fuel as possible, knowing I would be dropping the tank on Monday. Sure enough, as soon as I got into my driveway and was preparing to back up to my 18' flatbed, the truck died. Can't get any better than that!

I will post pictures of the fuel pump assy for everyone to review so that you all have a better understanding.

Excellent. Very happy to hear you got this bug squashed. still leaves one issue though, what about the crank/cam sensor codes you got? did the mechanic tell you they were related to the cat being plugged?

He asked if I knew if the Crank Sensor was adjustable. I do not believe that it is on the 5.2L. He explained that sometimes the P1391 will show up because the Crank Sensor is too far away from the flywheel to get an accurate reading. I am going to clean the connectors and double check the CKP.

I'd just go ahead and run it and see if the codes come back.

OK, dropped the tank tonight and corrected my pump. Here is how I thought the pump is supposed to be set up. Notice that there is no rollover valve. I had the evap hose connected to the siphon nipple:

Here is what the fuel pump should look like for my truck. The pressure regulator is absent from this setup:

Here is what everything looks like with the pump assembled properly. All I did was swap the top portions of the pump, install the pressure regulator (clamping it in place) and then put it all together. Steve, would you mind using these pictures in the fuel pump DIY? The angles you have don't show the top part of the tank and I wanted to show what everything proper looks like. *Note - My tank does not have a rollover valve on top of the tank -- some trucks do.

Steve,

Just execute a 'Right Click' and 'Save As' for the pictures you want to use.

Drove the truck to work today. She's running well; however, I can sense a slight cutting out while the engine is running, which makes me suspect there's a slight misfire. I've routed those damned plug wires ever which way. I have the stock 8.5mm replacement wires and am now thinking of something more performance oriented. I take it anything larger will prevent the misfiring? Any recommendations?

I would suggest for now, leave it and put some miles on it. get about 1k under it's belt before doing any more debugging.
