I did not look that throughly through it. It has been my experience that the Chilton's is a (poor) index to the Factory Service Manual. The print is very small, and the photograph quality is even worse.

yeah but it still might be worth a look... it might also be worth it to check out the haynes manual. public libraries often have them if you cant find on at the auto parts stores.

Since it is below 60º here in Oklahoma for the remainder of the week, I decided to drive the truck. I barely have 200 miles on the engine, and it needs to get broken in. I have not replaced the hose from the vent side of the fuel sender that connects to the emission hard line to the charcoal canister.

Throttle response is "decent", but power is still marginal. Even though I still believe the cat to be clogged, I am thinking that perhaps the temperature sensor for the PCM is bad. After all, the one in my dad's minivan was bad, which resulted in poor power to the point that the vehicle could barely run (the sensor indicated that the vehicle was at -200º). Perhaps this could be part of the reason I have some problems with mild hills and a top speed of around 73mph?

Either way, I am taking the truck to a muffler shop, after work, to have the cat inspected and see what kind of temperatures we are talking about. I called yesterday, and the rough estimate of a cat and Flowmaster exhaust was $320. Not too bad, and in the ballpark of what I was expecting.

Got the catalytic converter pressure checked on the way home. 6-lbs of back pressure. Looks like I will be getting a new exhaust system. I think the back pressure is causing combustion problems. I also got some new line for the vent from the fuel pump. I'm dropping the tank tonight and installing it.

Here is the new line - 3/16" instead of ¼". Fits nice and snug on the hard line that goes to the vapor canister.

On another note, coming home my truck threw a P1391 - Intermittent Loss of CMP or CKP. Any ideas on how to solve this?

since your getting a new exhaust system... suggestion for you... cut the exhaust right after the cat and punch a hole in the cat. that way you'll at least be able to get exhaust past the cat to finish troubleshooting the other problem.

btw, flowmaster dual out 2.25" is the way to go... or a single 3"

Looks like I am going to go with a 3" single Magna-flow. My muffler guy said both are about the same except the Flowmaster has the more growling sound. I'm not 19 anymore, so loud exhaust means nothing. I am usually "one" with my vehicle, meaning that if there's a strange sounds that crops up I'll be able to notice it right away. I don't want a loud exhaust system drowning anything out.

CMP - Camshaft Position Sensor
CKP - Crankshaft Position Sensor

From page 464 of the 2001 FSM.

[&:] should have known...

did you reseat the connectors on them? is there a chance your pinched a wire and it could be intermittantly shorting out? that could be why it's running like crap.
