I was thinking about making my own rear bumper, since mine rotted out. I have no designs yet, but I am leaning towards making it a weather resistantstorage box to hld chains and other off road stuff.

If you are just looking at ideas for design, look at Buckstop or Road Armor for ideas...Also there is Eagle, but I don't like these as much. The reason that I suggest these, is there are a lot of these on the road here in Oregon as they are all Oregon companies. And as a last thought, there is one more here in Oregon...Pro-Line...

I hope that these help.

I built both front and rear bumpers out of 1/4" plate steel

the rear bumper

here is the front bumper build

If I had to do it all over again I would have incorporated a fron receiver into the front instead of makeing it boxed for a 12K winch

A long while back, high school days, my now brother inlaw custom built his front and rear bumpers. He used 4' round pipe for the top portion of the ranch hand style bumpers, but he added air chucks to both. He could fill these bumpers with compressed air and he kept an air hose in the toolbox. When we had flats while hunting we would use a plug kit to plug the hole and then air the tire up off the bumper. This worked great. We didn't do it then, but another idea for this would be to add a small under hood compressor that would keep the bumpers full of air. The tool box idea is a great one also. Anything that expands the use of the bumpers is good. Jeff.

the tool box idea is good but it is next to impossible to keep dry/ weather proof ect.

If it gets dented you may not be able to open it or close it.

I almost tried this my self but decided against it for the above reasons
