just trace your brake pedal up you will see it up there, you need to twist it before it will come off. it is called a stop light switch in schuck's website (pasrtsamerica.com) under switches.

RE: ABS and Brake light
I would check the brake light switch first, but 22 bucks is not bad at all.

RE: ABS and Brake light
I had the same problem with the lights but also when my speedo got up to 20 mph, it would drop to zero and would'nt register again until it slowed back down to 20 mph. The problem was the speed sensor on the tranny. Had to take it to a local mechanic cause sensor problems aren't my thing.

2000 Dakota 4WD. abs and brake light message on dash stuck on. Got rusty nut and stud off, but plastic speed sensor broke leaving the case covering the copper wire electro magnet sensor stuck in the differential. The differential cover is glued on. So how do I extract the plastic, about the size of a large thimble.

I've been reading about it. Downloaded service manual and everything checked out ok. When I assembled everything back together, i sprayed all contacts with contact cleaner. Now my lights stay off if I drive the truck right away after starying the engine, if I let it idle for a few seconds after starting the lights come on.
I almost forgot that you dont need an expensive abs scanner/reader. All you have to do is temporarily ground pin 13 of the obd2 port with the ignition on. The abs and brake lights will flash a number of times. Count the number of flashes, including the first one (very long one) to get the code. Then google the chart (my service manual is in a pdf and im on my phone) and voila!
Another thing I did was slam the brakes on the dirt road (trying to initiate an abs/rwal cycle) after that I got on the hwy and while on the hwy the lights went out and would only come on as previously stated.
