Racinfan83 -

Thanks for making it so easy. I'm going to Autozone this weekend to get the parts.

Silver-
Sorry, I tried to reply right after you posted and the computer locked up. This site runs incredibly slow on my computers for some reason. Nice weather finally got here so I've been busy working in the yard and such. If you can remind me how to put "full size" pics on here I would appreciate it - I spent 10 minutes trying to post full size pics on here and gave up and went with the attachments........
I haven't driven it on the highway yet - gotta go to work today so I'll see. It is snappier around town, and you really hear it sucking air when you jump on it. It does make a wierd "whistling" sound when you first start it and until it gets warmed up good. I assume that is the IAC or something that you couldn't hear before - any ideas would be welcome.....
I cut that screw off that was mentioned in an earlier post with a pair of sidecutters, and I pulled the wiring harness loose from the 2 holders above where the new air cleaner goes to make a little more room. I tied it back up with zip ties. No rubs, and it all seems to be working fine!

OK, so you have installed breather filters on one side... what about doing the same thing to the PCV?

You need some "suction" to properly evacuate the crankcase IMO. With the stock setup there is suction on both sides, one into the air cleaner and one into the intake through the pcv valve. The breather setup allows the pcv side to suck clean air into the left side and better evacuate the crankcase than just having two "vents"......
Probably not much difference performance wise from stock, but it makes it to where you don't have to run a hose into the round air cleaner and accomplishes the same thing

I have an Edelbrock one on my Nova - so I tried it first. There is too much "drop" on the bottom plate for it to work. I tried another one also (can't remember which brand) with the same problem. The Mr. Gasket 1480is the only one I found in the local parts stores that will clear everything.

I think I fixed my "whistling" problem this morning. The Mr Gasket air cleaner is kinda cheaply made (get what you pay for) and there were some burrs on the bottom of it where it sits on the gasket. I cleaned that up with some sand paper and then put a layer of electrical tape around the lip. Seems to have solved that problem. You other guys that are doing this must keep in mind that no matter what, you have to have a complete seal everywhere in this assembly to keep the dirt out of your engine......So be very careful to get a tight seal and get the lid on tight.

I have the Edelbrock Pro-Flow 14" x 3" Model 1221. Too much drop with the same result as you. Edelbrock sells a 1/2" spacer as well as 3/4" and 1" spacers. I have a 2001 5.9L and ordered the 3/4" which should give me enough clearance top and bottom. Check out summit racing.com. The 1/2" spacer is EDL-8093; 3/4" is EDL-8092. I don't have the number for the 1" but it's there somewhere. I won't get mine until Wednesday. 1/2" may be all that's required for this model air cleaner to clear the bolt you' re talking about and other linkage. I will keep you posted.
Mr Gasket also carries spacers at about 1/2 the cost of Edelbrock but don't know if they are the same material or thickness. All of these are for the 5 and 1/8" neck diameter.
Received 3/4" spacer and installed it, clearance is snug so swapped out 3/4" spacer for 1/2" spacer. Much better clearance on top and clears manifold and linkage nicely. Went ahead and ordered the Mopar air cleaner for performace comparison. We'll see what happens.
