Glad I found this thread before plunking down the change for a FIPK kit. I like this solution WAY better! Hopefully it stops raining tomorow so I can go do this to my truck as well.

I did have a thought on this though after reading thru this whole thread. EWveryone keeps talking about ways to get cold outside air directed to the filter. Wouldn't this mod work very well with a hood scoop? ram air hood? cowel induction hood, etc? Isn't that what all the muscle car guys have been doing for ages? Seems to me a functional scoop would help dump more cold outside air directly where the filter sits.

Not to keep this thread from dying, but I installed this setup on my truck a few weeks ago, and just wanted to say Thanks!

Seriously, I cant believe how much nicer the truck is to drive with this setup.

I cant compare to any other intake than the stock one, but its miles better than that.

OK well i got through about 10 pages of this and got tired of the "this thing is great". I have a question, how does this thing seal on the bottom when in contact with the TB? Does the bottom portion of the filter equal the diameter of the TB (assuming mine is the 5 1/8 that's popular)?

I'm set on a 14x3 Mr Gasket setup for now, possibly replacing with an Airhog filter element or something slightly less than a K&N.

Yes, it just mates up to the TB gasket, same way as the stock setup did.

You all thought this thread was dead...I brought it back!

I wish I was part of this site and read this before I bought my cold air intake with a cone K&N filter....I tried installing it today and it was cheaply made...too high and won't seal on the TB!

There goes cash down the drain! Anyone wanna buy it? :P I am gonna try to sell the cone filter at least...it was never used! Or maybe I can just put it on my rice burner but it is 10 inches long!

Anyway...gonna go out and buy the round tomorrow at NAPA. Wanted to review what I have read (got lost after 18 pages).

Buy a round 14x3 cleaner (elderbrock, Mr.Gasket or Mopar) and a K&N filter 1535? Make a S-bolt and call it good, right? Sound difference btw?

Oh and small breather also..right?

Still happy and using this setup Silver?

Yup, still using it. In fact, I sold my K&N FIPK many months ago, so I have no plans to go back.
