looking for high output alternator for 5.9
I'm looking for a high output alternator for a 97 1500 with a 5.9 liter. The stock one isn't toast yet but I just put a plow (and eventually a dump kit) on it and when it does go I want to have one on hand to replace it right away. The right way... if anyone has any suggestions on where to find one reasonably priced please let me know.

"Those alternators are a little costly to build. The highest I can build them to is a 225 amp. I can custom build you a 100% NEW 200 amp for $370 or a 225 amp for $420."
Great stuff...I know lots of ppl who run these and havent had any problems....Nat is a good guy!!

some info in case it is of use to someone:
---
The '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9V8's did come with a 150 amp
alternator from the factory. I'm guessing it had largely to do with the
electric fan that they also came with. I just picked one
up to see if it would work on my Dakota. The answer is, no for any vehicle
before 1998. Different
connectors than on my '95. I thought there had been a switch in terms of
connectors
at some point and it turns out that it was in '98 and up. The part number
for anyone that is curious is 56041394AA for this piece.

I had seen where others had the question about where to get a high output
alternator for their HEMI Rams. After a little digging and some help from Bill
Marine Chrysler in Springfield, Ohio, I found a 160 Amp unit that SHOULD bolt
up to our (3rd Gen Ram) trucks. The p/n is for a HEMI Durango, but it SHOULD interchange.
Now for the bad news.....the 136 Amp unit can be had online for $112.80 USD.
The 160 Amp unit is $293.60 USD!! The p/n for the 160 Amp unit is 56028697AA.
The website I got the prices from was
www.newdodgeparts.com
FWIW, the list on the 160 Amp unit was $375.00 USD
and the difference in wattage between the two
was 345.6 Watts (V*A=W, using 14.4 Volts) Hope this helps.
makeitmopar.com has it for $275.25.

to get it right.. your saying for the 98+ cherokee's 150amp alt would only work on 98+ rams?
and the reason why I want so much power is because my fans draw ALOT and with my stereo and other power hungry goodies, along with future plans for mods, like maybe a plow,, i wanna build the electrical system up pretty beefy now.. my 136 is doing ok.. but the more crap I add, the more its having ahard time keeping up.. I wanna kick the dim light bug out the window as soon as possible...

For the 1998 Jeep GC 5.9L V8 alternator t would be a true 'bolt on' on the years above 1998
but for prior years it would just mean changing the electrical connections.
I haven't seen the Hemi Durango alternator
but I would suspect that it might also be adaptable to the earlier engines.

GREAT find habeba !!
I might look into running that 150 from a cherokee,, i plan on putting the truck back onto just its OEM style circuitry.. and then everything that I have added or will add will be soley run off the aux. alt and 2nd battery... this might work out best for me since i am a firm beleiver that high drain's on alternators dont effect mileage or power... well not enough to worry about it..id rather run 2 smaller alts seperatly instead of spending the $$$$ on huge or rebuilt-rewound style.
