Default Lifespan of a factory battery?

Does anyone know a lifespan of a stock battery? My 01`s battery just took its last crawl out of bed and tried to start my truck today n it was deader then a doorknob.I put a new red top optima battery in it and she cranks like nothing ever happened.I know Optima is a good battery heck i got 1 in my classic car.But to get back on the subject, is 5 years good for a battery?

thanks

I think that is great for a stock battery. Here in Phoenix, I am lucky if I get 2 years out of a battery, the heat just destroys them.

I'm still using the original battery in my '01 with no issues. It's parked outside every night and was 5 below zero this morning and the engine turned over just like a warm summer's day!

My 01 battery just died in October at about 82k. I also replaced with Red Top Optima.

I replaced my '99 stock battery about 4 months ago. It still tested good, but I didn't feel very comfortable with a battery that old. I went with a red top Optima as well, great battery.

My battery on my wifes 98 died all of a sudden a couple months ago. I figure my 2000 is maybe a year or so away. I usually get 6 years or so out of a battery.
