Camshaft position sensor is the black plastic ring inside the distributor. Tells the pcm where the cam is so it fires the injectors at the right time.

Check for a broken wire, first. Otherwise, it's like Indy stated. I think it's a dirt cheap part anyway. Just a semi-ring of metal on a plastic circle.

any ideas anyone? im hoping the rings arent bad. the truck had just over 198xxx miles on it. never smoked before the cps went out. still runs good but now its smokey, definatly oil from exhaust the higher the rpms are. maybe some aftermarket oil additive will help? just had the oil changed like month ago. if that.

Have you checked your plenum gasket?

198K miles and you're hoping the rings aren't going bad??? Damn, you got your monies worth out of that. Sounds like rebuild time to me.

look down in your intake with a flashlight, if you can see oil pools or its real dirty then change your plenum gasket and that should solve your problem.

I can think of a few numerical fixes. They are 402, 408 or 426
Its rebuild time
