Default Factory security system or not?

My grandpa just picked up a 99 Ram Laramie Quad cab since his old 94 Ram shelled the tranny again. Now he is wanting me to put his remote starter/keyless entry into his new truck and I was wondering if there is a way to tell for sure if it has the factory security system or not before I tear into it. TIA

What brand of keylesssystem is it? Most of the brands have a website that you can check to see if the vehicle is compatible.

Santa Claus gave me a keyless/ remote starter that I hope to install in my truck this weekend. http://www.boasecurity.com/

It's a bulldog system, but I puta similar one on my old 98 Ram and their site said I needed to bypass the security system, but the truck didn't have one.

May sound dumb, but have you tried locking the doors and checking to see if the 'security' light blinks?

Actually I haven't even seen the truck yet to do anything to it. I'm out of town right now and just wanted to find a way to know for sure before I tear into it.

i dont think there anything to bypass... if anything you might just have to signal the keysense

i just got done doing a 06 yota corolla,, that wasnt fun... have to bypass using a 556U transponder ...

almost positive that sec gens dont need anything special.. ive done 3 and never had to.. i install ultrastart's tho.. bulldog has a nice website.. http://www.bulldogsecurity.com/

IIRC to incorporate keyless you have to run a 5wire signal.. but i cant remember.. its been about aminuite since i done a 2gen ram

Well I wnet and tried to hook it up today, First of all I found out it is a 2000 instead of a 99, but I got it hooked up, pressed the button started the truck with the remote, then it popped both fuses for the remote starter. Any idea what could be goin on here? Is this how a factory security system would deavtivate the remote start? I locked the doors and never saw anysecurity light on the dash, And sorry johnalm, I completely forgot to get a vin #

something is drawing too much off the RS.. had this problem puting a few of RS's on desiels since the starters draw so damn much power.. double check your wiring and make sure everything is connected correctly according to the install manual..

if this is good.. and ONLY if these conections are good.. i would try running a bigger fuze.. or make sure you have a solid power source.. no knowing what size motor the truck has.. but cranking a 360 does take a boat load of juice and might be drawing to much.. what size fuzes are in the RS? assuming prolly 20A on each red/power wire... they should be a 30A or more.. since a start or acc. circuit in most vehicles are rated up towards the 30A range..

good luck!

It does have the 360 and the remote starter has 30a fuses in it. I have gone over the wiring like 3 times an it all seems good.
