added lift .. stockers are 1.6 these numbers are the ratios.. for every "1" push on the pushrod end.. the valve stem end will tilt "1.7" instead of the stockers "1.6" valves open with more distance.. moves more air.. more power

and there is a difference with roller and non-roller/flat tappet/stamped. you would REALLY feel the difference if you had a roller cam and roller lifters.. PLUS the roller rockers.. rollers do reduce vavle train friction enough to help generate good tq and power..

yes the price difference is quite attractive with the stamped 1.7 vipers,,,but if your building up a race, or even a mildly built motor,, rollers are the way to go.. especially if you end of going with the stock grind but roller cam and lifters..

id like to see someone with the HS's to put in a set of the stamped vipers and see if the butt dnyo says anything.. Silver! for the small price,, you could maybe work it out with someone .. you buiy them...run the test,, and then sell them to the original buyer... just a thought,,, i would do it but HS's are on the list and not in the truck....yet.

and yes.. 16 .. you need 16.. 2 per cylinder.. (for whom ever above asked)

Yes, the friction difference is important, but the most gains crom from the added lift. This is a common, low budget, mod for old VW Beetles.

i could not agree more with shott but most of us are not even close to mildly built we have "bolt-ons" and these viper stamped rockers are gonna be the ones to go with unless your gonna do like RM and build a race motor

I agree with tani1500 I put in the part # 5245335 and it says that is fits the 8.0L on dodge 2500 and 3500. Can anyone verify this?

Can anyone verify if Tani was right about the 8.0 having stock 1.7's? If so, would the viper or the HS 1.7's be any kind of upgrade over the stock 1.7's? I'm just trying to find out what mods there are out there for the V10 since there don't seem to be many and I haven't found anything in searching where Rom mentioned viper rocker arms.

Is there a tech write up anywhere on how to install 1.7 rockers?

Depends on what brand/type of rockers you're looking at. This is a good right up on Harland Sharp rockers, but they are shaft mounted, no guideplates, no lash adjustments, so install is very different then what you would need to do with Crower or Viper rockers that are like the stock rockers. You could try the service manual.

I thought the Ram V10 was a cast iron version of the aluminum Viper V10. If so ... makes sense that it would already have 1.7's on it.
