1996 Ram wiper fuse problem.
Hey I have a 96 Dodge Ram single cab short box. its my not so daily driver. the other week i drove it to work and back used the wipers everything worked. then 2 days later get in to go to work...... and nothing. get to work check the fuse. it was bad. so I went got a fuse (same fuse) 20A
I had the key in and turned to on. put the new fuse in. "POP" ?????
tryed it with the key out. no pop. turn the key. "POP"!
so with the warmer weather i was looking around made sure nothing was in the way of the arms. tryed another fuse....... well you know why I am here. LOL
I just want to know where to start looking. I am thinking its a wire problem if the fuse pops even before i turn on the wipers.
any help is welcome.
Thanks
Matt

Fuses only blow 1 of 2 ways. An overload, and direct short.
Go under the hood and disconnect any wire harnesses attached to the wiper motor. Now replace the fuse and see if it blows. If it does, there's probably a wire with a cut, or chaffed insulation. (naturally the key and wiper switch have to be on).
If the fuse doesn't blow, leave everything on (key, and wiper switch), then plug the harness(es) back in and see if you get a big spark, that ultimately leads to a blown fuse. If the fuse blows, then your wiper motor windings, or it internal contacts may have broken off to create a dead short. Sometimes a brush, or piece of magnet can jam things up.
You can even disconnect the linkage at the motor to make sure it's not the wiper arms themselves that are binding up.
Hope this helps.
Good luck with your ride.
