Default [PICS: dial-up warning] Wreck, Fender, Bumper Questions...

So this kid does a u-turn in front of me (the white vehicle )thenwham-bam and I have a nice little project to fix. It's a '94 4x4

My main question has to do with the fender assembly. I assume it is entirely an unbolt then reattach the new fender. Is the fender/wheelhousing one complete assembly? It looks like the wheelhouse is welded to the fender and I see replacement fenders and wheelhousings listed seperately. I can't find any pictures showing the details of the fender from the inside. I don't have a good handle on the extent of the fender partinto the engine bay and if I have damage to any structure under the fender.

An enlarged version of the above: http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c5/gpf...317closeup.jpg<---- A bit too large to put into the thread

Are the surfaces shown by the arrow points part of the fender assembly?

The kid was driving a '95 Cherokee. The car that hit him first was a 96 Lumina. The Lumina smacked him in the tail gate and I took out his front left corner. He had a popped radiator. Roads were kind of slick but didn't really contribute to the accident, just affected our ability to slow and maneuver to miss the dumb-butt. I'd guess the Jeep would be totaled, a lesson I hope he learns from. My truck will probably be totaled as the body shop put the estimate at $3,000. Hell, I can fix it myself for about $500 and be satisfied. The truck shows it's age but has been rock solid mechanically. I'd hate to loose 1) a truck and its utility, 2) a vehicle I've owned since new that is about as dependable as they come, and 3) a bunch of money to replace it.

ya the whole radiator support and both fenders are spot welded together, the easiest thing to do would be to pull one from a junkyard and have your body shop jam the radiotor support and the inner fenders, then put it on your truck (check for frame damage first, i bought my ram as a front end wreck with a parts truck and the whole front frame horn was bent so i had to plasma cut the horn off the parts truck and weld it on to mine) after you have it put on your truck and all lined up take it back to your body shop and have them spray the outsides......or you can drive around with a multi-colored truck ( i havn't got around to mine yet )......and dont forget to order the new sticker for the radiator support

Are you saying the entire left/right fender and radiator enclosure are weled together? Damn, that'll make this project about 5 times the work I was originally expecting.

yup it sure is, when you get the front off all you will see is frame, engine, wiring harness and ac (DON'T disconect ac condensor or any aclinesor your gonna ****yourselfwhen it blows in your face, just gently push them out of your way) take pictures of how things went before you start to make life easier going back together. so if your planning anything like headers in the future or you want to clean up your block now would be a good time, you can replace just the one fender if you seperate the spot welds and can spot the new one back on to it, but it really is not that much of a job to take the whole front end and is easier in my opinion, just make sure you have three or four guys to help you take it off and get the new one on so you don't scratch up your doors

Sorry to hear that happened to your truck.

I just did this to my brother's S-10, his inner and outer fender unbolted, no welding needed. If the dodges need to be welded, then you need to make sure everything is straight, so that the hood and doors won't hit and other parts go on right. You can get the parts form LMC for less then OEM. I used a lot of LMC parts for the rebuild, and they fit great.

If it is totaled, you may want to think aboutis what you state's procedure is for inspecting and registering a salvage vehicle. You eil needto check with the state about the picturesand documents required to have it pass a Salvage Inspection and get a new registration with a salvage tite.

And budget more then $500 for the project. You will find little things to replace and they add up quickly.
This is just the front of the truck, we had to swap the whole bed as well.

Good Luck

Now I'm getting confused a bit. It snowed here this weekend so I wasn't too keen on getting out there to inspect it. I just went out to take a look at the radiator surround/fender joint. This is what I see:

The arrows point to what look to be the only fasteners between fender and rad support. Was there more than one assembly procedure at the factory(ies)? The truck is Mexican and not Canadian built. Does that matter? Here's two more showing the topside fender bolts. I have heard about the welds before, but the service manual from this site (be it a 2001 though) and my '94 specific Haynes manual say bolts without mentioning welds.

I'm a little vague on what you actually get when you order a fender such as this:

I know how things can start adding $$$ up. I figured a fender, headlight assembly, paint and shipping would be about $430. A past project of mine was repairing our Intrepid after it was totaled. It was far more severe than the truck as I had to replace all the heat exchangers, fansand one bumper mount. A nice project which netted a decent second hand car for us.

When I finally tear into it, I'll document with some pics how the tear-down actually went.

I used also used the LMC catalog to figure out how the parts came apart as well.
They provide decent exploded views of sections.

Post some pics, I would like to see, just in case I ever need to rip mine down.

(is that a shiny red C5 vette in the background??)
