All it does is let the axle disconnect engage manually instead of by vacuum. Doesn't affect the differential at all.

welcome to df.
as said, it does not change the nature of the dif. it just replaces the trouble prone vacuum CAD with a solid, never fail manual lever. the design of the axle uses a 2 piece passenger side axle as an alternative to locking hubs. so the purpose of the CAD (central axle disconnect) is to engage the 2 piece axle (the equivalent of locking the hubs). if the vac cad fails, you have no 4wd.

My friend clamped his to the shift lever of his NV4500 in his '98 Cummins. He likes it.

Just put one on my 2000 sport. Seems nothing fit right, lol. The nipple for my vent tube wouldn't thread in. The tube that holds the sensor went in like half a turn. Now it shows 4wd on all the time. I'm wondering if I'm going to have to crank that tube down tight. It's metal so should cut its own threads, as long as I don't have to take it back out again.
Yeah it's a bit different than the regular cad for activation. I have to stop, put it in 4h pull the lever roll forward a bit as I pull and pulls out about another half inch....tighten it down and go. Taking it out is pretty much the opposite.
