they do that too in NY.. fine shops for doing the work.. thats why shops are required to put an ID tag between the tint and the glass so the cops can record the info ....

my dad being a cop for 20+ years... i feel bad when people give him such a hard time for small stuff like tint, exhaust, tags etc etc.. like the post above, they are just doing there job.. no different from the rest of you doing your jobs day in and day out,, its just cops get the crap end of the stick b/c of the way they have to do theirs.. think about it.. same truck drives in and out of town with a loud exhaust, inproper tags, etc etc etc,,, someone will say something,, let alone the cops boss will mention something... easier said-they get put between a rock and a hard-place. "do i give this poor bastard a ticket for stupid petty crap, or do i risk my *** and job if i dont"

i know here in NY theres towns where you dont do anything wrong at all.. b/c the cops are so strict.. and other downs you can blow donuts on the walmart parking lot at 3 AM and the cops will come down and watch and shoot the bull with ya..

 

yea i know he was just doing his job.. i could tell he was a rookie too. its funny because he never gave me back a copy of the citation for the tag lol..

 

if you do remove the tint, don't pay someone to do it, windex works really well on the glue as does sunlight dish soap, get the tint started to peel with a sharp razor then sometimes you get lucky and it all comes off in a big piece then just spray on the windex

 

Don't take your tint off dude. That's like letting the man hold you back. I think you should put a loud *** exaust on it next if you haven't already.

 

Think about it. If the officer can't see you very well, how is he supposed to know that you are just getting your registration out of the glove box? I know it sounds stupid, but officers are trained to always assume the worst so they don't get caught off-guard. How do you know that someone hasn't called in on an armed robbery with a description matching your vehicle? Dark tint and strange movements could cause you to get hurt.
35% is legal here in Utah as well. If you knew it was legal, you should have asked the officer to test it to verify. If you ask, they are required. If it was legal, you would've been fine, if not, you still ended up with the citation. As for the back window, I can't speak for you because like I mentioned, I'm going off Utah laws, but the rear windows can be completely blacked out if you want, they only care about the driver and passenger side windows. You may be able to have the shop test it and verify that it is legal (through written and signed document) and then take that into your courthouse. I'd imagine the would wave that portion of the citation.

As for your court date, follow the directions on the citation. They should mention something about changing your date of appearance. If not, call. It can be done. Good luck.

That's alright they'll send you a little warning letter when they issue you a bench warrant. It'll tell you where to mail your money.

 

a bench warrant? sounds a little extreme for a front tag violation lol
