running hot
I am new to the dodge world. I just picked up a 99 ram yesterday. This morning while driving to the airport, I noticed the temp guage was almost in the red. I checked the coolant reservoir and it was full. All of the hoses are tight and are not swelling anywhere. Supposedly the dealer just had the radiator flushed and a new thermostat put in. What could be the problem?
you should doa complete fluid change and tune up to get a good baseline to start from to help aid in timely routine and preventative maintence.
coolant flush with a new t-stat would help.. possibly waterpump
if you JUST bought it.. i would be all up and down that dealers *** about it..

You say the reservoir is full. How about the radiator. The cap pressure allows the fluid to get sucked back to the radiator and vise versa. If the cap or hose to the tank is weak/bad it will not function right. Just remember, only open when cool or while running....
Either way the dealer should correct.........

test thermostat like this.
when the thermostat opens you will get hot water flowing through the top radiator hose and it will get too hot to hold. when your engine temperature gauge comes up to about normal (180-195), if the top rad hose is not getting hot, then the thermostat is not opening. its a good idea to set your heater to ON, temp to hottest setting, doesn't matter about fan. this will allow flow through heater core and help to remove any air pockets.
