what you all do for a living.
I hear you on that, work is very demanding as a civil, I luckily don't have to scale any bridges though its very common at this DOT, but you have to take some classes first, which is on the very back burner for me lol, since i'm Transportation most of my work is highways and roads projects designing and planning, surverying, do some geotech, airport design and planning, and construction inspection. I'm aiming for LEED certification in the near future. Surprise your company doesn't do geotech in house, but you probably sub contract that out. You have your PE yet, just wondering?
Yeah and I also work on the planning and designing side as well...and or the repair side... I just dont pick up the wrench or the materials... that's your job
This is how bad it is some times, I was flown to Park City, Ut to observe samples being extracted from a bridge just recently...

Fire Prevention/Security Officer for Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs. Been here for over eight years now. Before that, I built roof trusses and did glass work for five years.
For all of you builders and engineers and contractors and computer gurus, keep up the good work. For all of those in the military, thank you for letting the rest of us be safe enough to live free and pursue our careers/livelyhoods.

I kinda wanna be Billy. I just ship refrigerators, which feels like it's lost points on the Man card after seeing those pics. I've been a CNC machinist, I've done ultrasonic thickness testing in refineries, I've tried my hand at flipping real estate.
Thanks man, we try to make it fun while working.
I have done the ultrasonic D-meter testing, pretty cool little machine, some of the guys here do pinn testing with a UT machine to fine cracks, defects etc in bridge pins. I dont think any job makes you less of a man, its better then some of the able-bodied slobs sitting at home collecting because they are lazy...
Good to see what everyone does on here. A lot of you have some really cool jobs.
