One quick truck but an overheating nightmare in the summer.

How is the truck running? How does the small Cummins pull going up the hills compared to say a Hemi in the Dakota instead? How does it compare to your previous diesel conversions and what kind of mileage are you getting pulling the trailer. This is a very interesting unit you have put together. Also, do you have any pictures of the radiator on your photo account yet and what are the measurements of the rad. I may get one built here locally to help with towing as well. My trailer is around 5000 to 5500lbs loaded up, depending.

It pulls a little better than the HO 4.7 as I did a test pull up a local mountain and it maintained a little higher speed on the really steep parts. It also has much more power than the Isuzu 3.9 even after cranking up the pump and turbo pressure on the Isuzu.
Once I get home I will play with the Cummins a bit to see how much more I can get from it. I don't want to overdue it and blow the rear end, thought that would be a good excuse to do a dually swap. :>)
I have not checked mileage as it really does not matter on the holidays. I think I'm at about 14 mpg on average. I don't slow down for hills of any size and run at about 60mph all the time.
The rad was the same width as the sock one but 6" taller and 3" thick.
I was going to go with an aluminum cross flow from Speedway which was the correct size and a double row of tubes but I did not think even it would deal with the Cummins heat and I'm really glad I went big.
Also improving air flow into the rad area is important. The rad guy suggested a scoop just under the bumper but I just hacked the bottom of the bumper off for now.
I have some pic's in my phone of the two rads side by side but I don't have the goofy little adapter to get them off the phone card into the computer till I get back home.

Wow you got a lot of space under those rear seats. How deep can it be with no lift you think? What was the process of making that? I'm assuming you cut through the bottom of the cab and fabd up a new box insert?

Thanks

You would not get much out of it without the lift.
Yes just cut the hole and had an aluminum tray built to drop in.
The tray had a 1" flange all the way around the top.
I used a good marine sealer to bed it down and then a whole lot of 3/16" stainless rivets to secure it.

Just did a millage calculation on my last tank of fuel.
16 miles per US gallon towing the 5th wheel.
Not to bad. Will be interesting to see what that is like once we get home and have no trailer.

I doubt it will be much better! That thing is doing what it was designed to do right now - working hard! It probably is working right in its element.

Hope you enjoyed yourselves here in "The Town That Fun Forgot"

Hey EV, do you have the name of the rad shop in Saskatoon(or where ever in Saskatchewan) that you got your radiator made at? I am in the process of replacing my rad as well and would like to find out if they can make me one since they already made one for you and probably have the measurements etc. I have done a lot of research and have found a rad made my Northern ( northernfactory.com ) #205159 that I think will work that I can get at Lordco in B.C. here.
