Is the 2015 Colorado/Canyon the new Dakota?
With the Dakota's exit the midsize truck segment is not served by anybody. Is the revised Colorado aimed at that market? How does it compare size wise? GMC Canyon sure looks sharp.
The chebby looks like an *******. The Toyota, always hated, and Nissan always hated. they will never replace a Dakota. Dakota offered v8, Colorado/canyon did for some time, but wasn't an improvement. I don't understand why people buy a truck without a v8. Even most the guys with an S10 swap v8s into them.
Is the 2015 Canyon/Colorado the new Dodge Dakota? No....
But I think the new Canyon or Colorado could represent a well engineered and thought out vehicle a Dakota could have been had Dodge given a crap and not give us that late term abortion they call a truck in 2005.
I've been studying the specs and it seems like it is close to what I need. It is a smidge wider than the 05+ Dakota while being a few inches shorter. Seems to be a smidge lighter also. But the option for the light diesel engine is what I've been wanting for a LONG time.
I tow a light trailer two or three times a week. I've always owned V8 Dakotas but am getting tired of the 12-15mpg average I get out of them, the ****ty suspension tuning, the crap brakes and the even crappier stereo. There is nothing Dodge did when they discontinued the Dakota that made me want to get into a larger Ram.
I WANT a smaller truck. I don't want or need a stepladder to load stuff into the bed. I don't need to tow 12,000 lbs. I only need to two 3,000 to 4,000 and need to do it safely and reliably. I need it to be able to pull that weight up a hill without matting the gas pedal the whole trip (hence the diesel). And the rest of the time when I'm not towing or hauling, I'd like to be able to drive it around town and not get 14mpg.....
Seems the Canyon or Colorado are going to hit that bullseye perfectly.

They will be offering a diesel in it. That's the fantastic part. Mid size truck with a legitimate motor for honest to goodness work. It is a 2.8 diesel. Rated somewhere around 200 hp and 350 ft/lbs of torque. .While that is only about 30 ft/lbs more than the 4.7, it IS torque in a far more useful area. LOW RPM's!!!!
I feel like I have to rev the **** out of my 2011 when towing. Even something light.
