Check with local laws first about sound. Some towns have limits on how loud your vehicle can be. Don't want to get a ticket. Plus I don't think your truck will pass inspection either.Go buy a gibson dual sport exhaust. Thats what I have and I love it. It has a nice rumble at idle and when you step on it it roars.
I don't think Frenchy's real concerned about the noise (he did say he wanted it louder) and passing inspection. I'm betting he'll just throw the flowmaster's back on, or the factory one, to pass inspection. If Michigan even has inspection.

Interesting discussion. Which configuration gives greater performance or fuel economy...custom exhaust or a straight pipe?

Never heart any of our race cars or mud trucks, and no, we dont change out motors like big budget teams do. our 454 has been in 2 cars over the past 6 years and made many passes and drives on the street. never even broke the valve cover gaskets.

But they arent driven in stop and go traffic either. We had to fix my old bosses truck after he burnt up the valves after running straight pipes for a year or so. And that was a 98 5.7L that was only a year old. GM denied the warranty after the dealer seen it had straight pipes.

But its real nice to have to have some joker with cherry bombs or straight pipes drive by your house at 8am when you work 2nd shift and dont get to bed until 4am. THanks alot. I really dont need the sleep.

I would not be too worried about emisions unless in california and then all you got to do is stuff the tail pipe with steel wool to pass emissions. In my experiences too little back presure will make anything run like crap so you may not want to touch the cats. I also want to point out that you will set off your MIL warrning if you ream the cats, I recomend reading the service manual. I was going to do it my self untill I read that. I don't know if the MIL will trip anything else in the computer or just turn on a light in your dash. If you ream them out let me know how it goes and tell me how you bypass the cat sensor. Just don't mess with the O2S sensor that does the calcs for A/F ratio (Hint: Its on the engin side of the cat).

Tho, I'm not sure what I talking about so take it or leave it. <<== Not joking either.

Yeah Michigan doesn't have Vehicle inspections so yeah... Although their starting to do this thing on certain on off ramps on certain highways around here where they have sensors that measure your emissions as you drive buy with a sign that tells whether its Excellent, Good, Fair, or Poor. Also as you drive past there is a camera that Takes a Pic of ur license plate and if you do poor or I think fair they mail a letter to your house ...its a scolding letter but thats it, its not a ticket or a fine or anything...just a letter... but alot of people think this is just the ground work for Vehicle inspections in Michigan.

I would love it if Maine didn't have inspections.

Colorado is trying to get rid ofinspections because they are a waste of money. There is such a low percent of cars not passing that there is no reason to have them. They are going to keep the remote testing units that we drive by on the highway just to keep everyone monitored but that's it. That's awesome because you can pass that test easy with a high emissions vehicle if you know how to drive through them right.
