Default Custom Sway bars...

How hard would it to be to build your own sway bars? I can see the front being somewhat easy to do, since you can put that on the struts in the engine compartment, but what about the back end? What kind of curvatures would I need and bushings, and hookups... etc...?

why are you making sway bars? It seems quite challenging, what with complicatedbending of that type of steel. just curious.

I want to stiffen the ride and steering more. I've got plans on doing some performance challenges in the future, but I don't want to go out and pay for sway bars that are over priced, and since my father in law works with metal, I figure I could get him to help me out.

I don't believe a bar on the struts in the engine compartment would have exactly the same effect as a sway bar. Also, I've only seen strut bars used on unibody vehicles, I'm not sure if they have much of an effect on a vehicle built like ours.

I bet you can't even get an after market sway bar for our trucks. I would consider limiting straps

That and where the struts are in our engine you'd have to make it raise quite high up...

I actually thought about doing this when I first got my truck..

I thought you were going to make and replace your SWAY bars. A strut tower bar is much simpler. It will have to be really thick and stiff since it has to arch up so much to get over the motor. I agree w/ altair, I don't think ladder frame vehicles benefit as much from these. I had one on my passat though and it made a difference. Like eric said, itpushed more predictably.

I know that they make sway bars for other trucks... such as the F150 and I'm sure the Chevs/GMCs have them too. Look in a Summit Racing Catalog, that's where I'm getting the idea from, and I'm sure our trucks will benefit from it.

I got the idea from watching import cars (STi and the EVO and the SRT4) and watching them mod the suspension and handling stuff..
