Default Finally cleaned the truck...

Well, after a year of not detailing the truck, I finally got to it this morning at about 7:00. Some clay, some cleaner, polish, wax and 10 hours later the outside is nice and clean [sm=icon_rock.gif] I'll tackle the interior tomorrow.

After

Very nice I'm claying my stang as soon as the new body parts are all on. Hope I don't screw it up LOL, I've never clayed a car before.

Don't know much about Zaino, but I have heard that it is expensive. I use Meguiar's products myself...whatever works it what I say....
Meguiar's has a 'clay kit' that comes with two clay bars (I cut one in half and used it on the truck), quik detailer, a microfiber cloth, and a small bottle of cleaner wax.

This was the first time for me as well, and all I can say is the stuff works!!! I used the Meguiar's Clay Kit (see above) and so long as you keep the surface wet, the clay won't stick. It is also my understanding that most clays are not that abrasive (but they can be).

It was really easy to clay the sides as not much was stuck to it, but the roof and the hood...[sm=headbang.gif] I think the tree sap was the worst part. I could not get it all off with the clay so I used some rubbing alcohol (*very* light rubbing and quickly removed) to remove the sap.

It looks really good...quite a difference, indeed. One suggestion...get some tire cleaner and make that rubber look good, too!

ya people tend to think that. but you cant think of it as a wax, because its not. its a sealant. and its one of the better sealants (if not the best) out there. sure you might spend around $100 on zaino give or take depending on what products you buy, but if done right, in even ****ty weather it can last 6 months plus without being done again...and you can use it another 2-4 times depending on how much surface area you have, how many coats you do ect ect....and it protects your paint a lot better than wax...ive been wantin to get into zaino for a while...a lot of people on the other boards i am on (for the hawk) swear by it and i have some friends that use it and i have seen the results first hand...

idk if you remember or not, but we had 2-3 months of HUGE amounts of snow and ice this winter...it had been 8 months since my friend applied zaino to his truck....after all the beating of the harsh winter, i was with him and he simply took it to the car wash and spend $1.50 using soap/rinse then we dried his truck and i was shocked. it looked like it had been detailed on for hours...by the end of the summer, ill let you know how i like it got too much $ wraped up between mods and activities comin up to buy it now...MAYBE in 2-3 weeks at the soonest

Yeah, I ran out of the that a while ago. I plan on getting some later today.

I have a Dual Action Polisher as I believe there is no way in hell to get really good results by hand when the paint is that bad.

After claying I used M83 Dual Action Clenaer/Polisher with two passes on the hood, top of fenders and roof; this is a medium agressive cleaner polisher which took out most of the scratches in the clearcoat. I then followed up with some M9 Swirl Remover which is a very light cleaner, but mostly a polisher. I had wanted some M21 Synthetic Sealant for the paint once it was cleaned, but I was unable to find any locally, so I just put on some M26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax. I will probably follow up with a second coat today....
