my truck just recently started sounding like a deisel upon start up. 67700 miles on it. been ynder 0 degrees here. found a cracked exhaust manifold. i guess i am putting out to much power for the castings. might have to go with headers. so much for no more upgrades for the truck

I have a diesel sound on cold startups. Not necessarily cold outside temps, just cold engine.

I even had someone who was standing next to my truck ask me if it was a diesel.

Haven't taken it to the dealer at all. I'm guessing any problems would be covered under the 7/70 warranty.

I'm just worried about having to pay out of pocket for the first several visits where they tell me the sound is normal or couldn't be duplicated.

Mine is an 05 with 38k on the odo.

I already have mobil 1 syn oil in it, I'm thinking its the valve lash adjusters making noise.

Yes valve lash adjusters. That is what my dealer said as well as an online Dodge mechanic. I still don't know why some are worse than others and most not at all. It must be in the manufacturing of either the engine or the lash adjusters. Or that one guy that hates his job. lol

Graythang, did either of your mechanics mention anything about any long term problems? As far as I can tell, it's annoying, but not damaging, as long as it quits after a few minutes.

Mine chatters and ticks at startup, and sometimes I can hear it when in a quiet tunnel or driving against a wall. I never really did anything about it, I can hardly ever hear it, mostly only at start up.

Will it hurt anything? I have 40,000 miles and going strong, nothing seems to be any different or worse.

Yeah 65,000 on mine with no observable ill effects. Just mainly concerned about my valve seats at 200,000 miles
