I somehow lost my spare key a few weeks ago (noooo idea how...had it one day, 2 days later when I went for it it was gone) but I had an idea. Not sure if it'll work though. I still have a spare fob from my 05 that got trashed, so I was thinking if I reprogram it for the new truck at least I'll have another remote that I can carry around to unlock the doors. Obviously, the key won't work in the locks or ignition since it was cut for another vehicle but the fob should if reprogrammed. No reason my super stellar plan shouldn't work, right?

On the Dakota, the fob keys are not reusable. Once it has been programmed, the chip is locked. You can get a standard Sentry key to open the doors and start the vehicle if it has the immobilizer. A scanner is required to add remotes if the vehicle does not have an immobilizer, and you must have a remote to shut off the alarm.
