Default Mud Puddles = Bad News For Me

Hey guys. Directly under my serpentine belt there is no skid plate or anything. Every time I go through a deep puddle or what not water splashes up and starts bogging me down BIG TIME. Almost stalled out the other day, luckily it was in 1st gear, I just mashed it and barely made it out. I'm gonna have to fabricate something outta some stainless steel unless someone offers up a better solution.

Stainless will be expensive, it might be cheaper to get some regular plate steel and have it powdercoated. Then again maybe not, could be worth looking into though.

The problem I'm gonna have is bending it to how I want. I took some measurements and made a mock carboard one that fits very nicely. But I don't have the first clue on how to actually fabricate it. My only idea was to pinch it between 2x4's with clamps and take my 2lb sledge to it...haha. You can take the kid outta the country, but you can't take the country outta the kid.

I am currently in the process of fabricating one of these. However, I was considering aluminum for weight considerations. However, I will most likely go with steel, then powder coat it like my light bar.

How are you going about it? I priced a big enough piece of 1/8 steel at Lowes for like $13. Much thicker and I dunno that I could bend it all that easily.

Do you know of anybody with a break or a hydro. break for steel? My buddy and I just finished building a alum. body for his street stock with a break.. Poss. to bend thin steel also, depending on how you need to mod. it

contact your local high school, all shop classes have a break and I'm sure the shop teacher will bend it for you for nothing...

hammer, i hate to break it to you, but most high schools dont have a shop class anymore they are more focused on the newer technology instead of manual labor (although i wish i could have taken shop class in High School :'( )

and for the record, this is an example of showing your age lol

any auto tech school will be glad to help you out. give the plans to the teacher and see if someone can build it for you. all students need extra credit. and if it comes out crappy, it gonna be underneath.

Don't know where you went but my high school had shop. My parents' company even donated two new bandsaws.
