You still around Legacy? I'd like to hear how this worked out. Hopefully you're not doing time for shooting that dealer...

Default yeah, I'm still here

Sorry for just replying. Life jumped up and bit my family pretty hard a few months ago and I haven't been online.

The mechanic and his supervisor still live although it was against my better judgement. They finally got the torque converter fixed, the whole dashboard fascia replaced and the smell out of the truck. (got rid of the smell by making them replace all the carpeting.) I also watched as they removed all the plastic panels and trim inside the cab that touched the carpet to make sure water wasn't back there to soak in the new carpeting. Yes, maybe I was being a first class, card carrying biotch for making them do this, but damn...my truck smelled brand new before they got hold of it. It smelled like a wet dog had died in it when I got it back. All I wanted was for them to make it right again.

I've had to make alot of 1 1/2 hour trips to help my sister so needless to say my Dak is out of warranty. Fortunately, it's been running great (knocking on wood) but any further repairs will be done by us or our regular mechanic if the problem is more than we can deal with. That said, it's good to be back and I hope everyone has been doing well and that their trucks are feeling as good as mine is!

Man, I wish I would've seen this thread when you first started it. Legacy, I know exactly what your talking about when you were experiencing this "shudder"--my 3.7 still does it to this day. I bought my 05 used as well and didn't notice it until after I had owned it for a few weeks. I tried posting on here for solutions, but it was too difficult for me to describe exactly what it was doing for the guys to even begin to give me a rough diagnosis, hell I even tried taking my dad for a ride to see if he noticed, and he didn't feel a thing. I started to think I was going crazy!
I have never had a CEL for anything motor/tranny related (only minor electrical stuff) so I figured it couldn't be doing too much harm. I have just come to live with the "shuddering" on a daily basis
Since they replaced the torque converter for you, how has it been? Have you noticed a difference in the drivability at all? If I can be sure that this is the problem, I would love to have it repaired, but my truck's warranty has since expired, so it may depend on cost as well. I'm not really looking to spend a couple grand to have a torque converter replaced, especially with the holidays right around the corner.

Thanks blown287! Yeah, it was a mess...hopefully that's all behind me now. The only big expense I have planned for the the Dak in the very near future is a new set of tires. And I pray that will be it for a while.

No FirstDodge05, you're not crazy. I had a couple of people ride with me that couldn't feel it either. I think it's because we drive the trucks more than anyone else and can tell when something just isn't quite right. It's interesting that yours is a 3rd gen 3.7 QC also. I wonder if there are other people out there with these 3.7's that have or had the same thing going on. I never got a CEL either.

Since the converter was replaced, my Dak has been running really well. I have actually noticed a slight increase in mileage but I think it's because the engine isn't racing to force the gear change. Definitely smoother while shifting.

I feel for ya man. As well as I like this truck, if it does it again anytime soon, I'm going to have to let it go. The repair is expensive...the dealer told me the torque converter alone is $600. Was your truck still in warranty when the problem started and did it visit a dealer for any type of diagnosis? Every time mine went in I got a handful of paperwork back. It listed why it came in and what the findings were. I was told I could use that as proof of problems before the end of warranty and get the work done under warranty. I'm not sure that would work in your case but it might be worth a try. If not, ya might as well wait until after the Holidays...I doubt a few more weeks will make much difference but I don't think I would try to pull/haul anything with it if I were you. At least it is still moving.

Best of luck to you with this. If you want to ask anything else, let me know.

Ouch, yeah I would say that's a little more than I was looking to spend.

It's funny that you ask if the truck was under warranty when I first noticed it. The warranty actually was active, BUT, I was an idiot and thought that the dealership would not be able to help becuase it was not throwing any codes. Like I said, I thought it was all in my mind and that if I brought it in, I would take a tech for a ride and they would not be able to feel it or I would not be able to reproduce the problem. I'm kicking myself in the *** now for that.

I honestly really only notice it anymore when I'm stomping on the gas (passing on the highway, etc.), especially, if not mostly when going uphill. It's been like this for over a year now since I've owned it and who knows how long before that. I wonder if I should just let it go until the damn thing takes a crap on me and then get it replaced.

Thanks for the help Legacy, I may be in touch, if that's alright with you, if any more questions arise. Not sure what I'm gonna do yet. Maybe I should take it in for an actual diagnosis before jumping the gun. I might get lucky and it be something simple. (yeah right! )
