An engineer that helped build a 1000hp Supra said "1000hp engine cars are not designed to last, they are build to go fast."

From what I understand our engine can withstand 350 horsepower sustained and 400 hp for extended periods of time without any internals breaking. Past that I need to replace pistons and rods. Everything else should be good up to 450 or 500 hp. If I had to guess I'd be under 350, so it shouldn't be too bad.

I honestly think I'm around 400-450 or so at the crank. Jason Berry is putting 19psi of boost into his 4.7L.

Yea, I'd definitely be good then. The funny part is I can get the supercharger for less than the adapter kit, haha.

Maybe this is what was meant for the beefy lower end of the HO? Wait a minute, I've got one of those. I wish I could say I was serious. If it weren't for the bloodsuckers!

Just curious, but with all this recent talk about sc'ing our engines, I've got a question about all of this. Based on some 'issues' that ppl I know have had with doing blower mods on Mustangs, how are the rods in our 4.7s made? I can't imagine they're forged, but stranger things have happened. More than likely though they're powdered.

A few buddies of mine with Mustang GTs and Machs have turned up the wick too far on their blowers and ended up throwing rods through the block since they're also powdered (not forged like in the Cobra) so I can't imagine it would take too much to twist ours into pretzels either.

With that said, what are the limits of our rods? They've already went from 235hp on the earlier version to over 300 on the 2008+ models with (supposedly) the same short block. So, it's apparent that a 20+% increase didn't cause any issues, but you guys are talking about over 50% higher output (some more like 100%!) by adding these blowers. It's not like I'm ever going to be able to add a supercharger or turbo setup to mine, but I'd hate to see some of these mods causing you guys to throw rods and turn your engine into a grenade. :/

Airram says he knows we're good with 350 hp and no problems. But like Blown said, there is a guy at 19 PSI on his stock internals. I'd say they're pretty damn solid.

PowerTech motors (3.7 / 4.7) use powdered metal rods. 400 HP would be naaasty...get some Hemi drivers panties all bunched up for sure.
