Overheating

On the way into work this morning... truck ran a little hotter than normal (about halfway on the gauge.)
On teh way home from work... about 6 miles into the trip... way hot, like 3/4 gauge. by the time I got pulled off the road. it was in the red. let it set for 45 minutes or so... temp was back down seemed fine for a few miles then BAM, it happened again.
The heater would blow hot air for a couple minutes then cold... the fan would kick on for a bit, then just shut off because the coolant it gets its temp from was fine... but the temp at the stat was not...
I am assuming that my stat is garbage and failed in the closed position... if its not that, anyone have any other Ideas?

well, the stat may have been bad...
But I must have pissed someone off, because there is a HUGE gash in the radiator.
SO, I get to order a new rad and a clutch fan... because I am not taking the chance of having one of the pull through connectors messing up a new one...
Unless I can figure out a better way to mount it.

It looks like someone took a screwdriver, and rammed it right into the back of the radiator just below the fan... I have no idea how anyone would get to it. but thats what it looks like. I will try to get pics of it once I pull it off and viewable... probably monday, since its my next day off.
I am going to call the insurance company to see what my deductible would be... but the rad is only 300 shipped next day... (rock auto)
I am pretty sure my normal deductible is 500... (talk about not worth it.)
And after looking at the pull through fan mounts... they would be an issue in the future... Just a tip for anyone.
MAKE SURE THEY ARE TIGHT... check them every so often. mine were tight at install, but now were just a bit loose. enough that big bumps would probably jar the fan around enough to make a problem down the road a ways.

If that is true, and someone really ruined your radiator... well, that the f*ck is wrong with people?
You see on here, every so often, these random acts of vandalism. It's disgusting.

That sucks man, I hate it when people screw with other peoples stuff. Earlier this month I dropped $1,200.00 cash because some turd cut my tires at the first of the month. That took a chunk of budget out of my performance mods.
