Default Installing Aftermarket Head Unit?

So I want to buy a aftermarket head unit, probably from Crutchfield. I'm going to do it myself, and I was wondering if it's just plug and play, or will I have to edit the dash covering, since I noticed that the stock radio has the two "ears." I want it to look good. What have y'all done to make it look right? Thanks in advance for responses.

When you get the kit for the dakota, the ears and all that will be included in the pod. I do believe there is an extra wire-set to purchase, ours is weird somehow. But I believe you can wire it to your cigarette lighter and call it a day.

Default deck installed

Ya you just need the pod that will fill in all the ears and such
andthen a wiring harness to go with it, easy to hook it all up
I believe they make two Pod styles, one has the tray under the deck? and the other is below

here's a pic of my old deck installed

If I were you, I would not order from Crutchfield. It's WAY overpriced.

I am just a step ahead of you. Bought a new c.d. player and trying to install it. The wiring harness I got that is suppose to be for a 2005 dodge dakota isnt working. Check my thread (I am still waiting for a reply).
