It's the perfect size for my "Grandpa" needs,
just wish the 2wd sat as low as the prev generation R/T
and came with the 2009 5.7 VVT MDS 390 HP 407 TORQUE 20 MPG HWY.

How in the world do you figure this? The Titan still uses a 5.6L.
This was talked about like a year ago to start a partnership for Ram-based Titans in 2011 or so, but that didn't really work out.
They'd be dumb to convert the Dakota to a unibody.
Perhaps if the Dakota's appealed to more people (how the sheet metal looks) and actually got better MPGs than the Ram, more people would buy it. According to dodge.com, Ram and Dakota get 20MPG at their best.

PickupTrucks.com has confirmation from Chrysler LLC chairman Jim Press that the next-generation Nissan Titan will receive a version of Chrysler's 5.7 liter Hemi V-8 gas engine. This makes sense when you consider that last May, the Chrysler LLC and Nissan Motor Co. announced that the next Titan half-ton pickup would be built by Chrysler at its plant in Saltillo, Mexico, and that the next Titan would be based on the all-new Dodge Ram 1500. While at the time Nissan and Chrysler didn't state what powerplant would be powering the new Titan, it only made sense that it'd be the Hemi, since the platform had already been built around it.

I bet if they built the M80 exactly how the concept is they'd see tons of sales for that. As for the future of the Dakota it's not looking too great at the moment, neither Fiat nor Dodge has a platform suitable for it that gets great mileage. With the new crappy CAFE laws coming in it's going to cause problems for Chrysler as it is. Thanks Washington...

Granted. A main driving force is linked to extreme gas prices, especially last year, but over the last 5 years; and the economic "downturn" (to say the least!)
I can't say I hope to see the Dakota go away, but they need to try to keep costs lower, quality higher (in the few areas they've had specific higher levels of problems), and a jump in those MPGs without power loss. [Keep wishing, huh? Haha]
I'll be in the market for a new (or used) truck in a few years, and I'd like to buy another Dodge.

Toyota Has the Tacoma X-Runner, Dakota needs an SRT(I can always dream).
