14 mpg?!

Wasn't thinking about the gears. Those are the 3.92's. They aren't helping anything either. Seems like ethanol would affect both city and highway if that were what's taking me down? Here in S.E. Mi. there's little/no choice regarding ethanol at the pumps. My trip to work takes 20 - 30 minutes to go 10 miles. Plenty of stop and go there too. Hard to believe the city and hwy. milage is so similar with this thing....

"Mileage will vary."
I wouldn't call your mileage "bad," unless you have a light foot and that is pretty much all highway (and not going 90).
Just keep in mind Dodge isn't know for awesome gas mileage.

I can get 21 mpg CDN on the highway, reduce that by 20% for the US mpg. Mixed tank averages around 18 CDN totally off highway in town is 15-16 CDN. Winter time warm up and idleing is about 12-13 CDN.

When I travel on the highway I set cruise at 2000 RPM, never more, that gives me about 65mph with my stock 16 in tires and my 3.92's anything over that and the mileage drops like a rock.

That ain't no joke. With my '08 AWD TRX 4x4 I average about 13 around town and 18 highway on a trip. Bone stock other than a K&N drop in filter.

Not sure, but it may have something to do with my 20 lb. size 13 foot.

No argument there, I get that. It's not THAT far off the EPA numbers. What I don't get is how some of these guys say they get 20mpg+ with their trucks? Are they running way up on the BS meter, talking about milage gained doing 60mph, running 2x4 V6's w/highway gears and manual trannies, or is there a possibility there's something wrong with my truck?

That and the fact my 100k+ mile 318 Gen1 4x4 trucks generally got better milage than what I'm getting with this truck (same roads/conditions/on average over a period of years). Wondering what all the extra sophistication available on the newer trucks comes down to, exactly, when it's time to stop for fuel?

I am running 200 mile X-way trips with a "light foot"/cruise control on to get my numbers.

Don't take this wrong guys. I love this truck. I'm just wondering if it's right or not. Thanks much for the feedback!

Default Sounds about right for low city mileage MPG

I had an 05 4x4 QC with the v6+auto tranny and it got barely over 13 MPG going to and from work (less than 5 miles, most of the time spent on stop/start/speedbumps with maybe 1.5 miles of it being freeway.)
My 07 4x4QC SLT v8+auto running e85 gets about 10 mpg on the same drive (running e85 so about 30% less than regular gas) if I drive it normal (if I try to get imporved MPG it gets worse - maybe I lug the enigine or it just doesn't wamr up or something.)
If you search back to about Oct of last year, I took it for a trip to Florida and got VERY nice mpg and posted the numbers on this forum.

In my '05 4x4 I've gotten 18.5 MPG at a hair over 70 MPH. That was measured at actual gas usage not depending on the overhead display which was reading 21.5 MPG. CAI and Flowmaster.

Mileage has been one of the real disappointments with my 09 V8 4x4 Dakota. I am only getting 12.2 in town. I have 4400 miles on it and the dealer said it should get better as it breaks in but I don't see it happening. How much would a cold air intake and upgraded exhaust help ?

Depends, for me they made it worse since I can't resist putting my foot down so I can listen to the rumble

Just stay away from those "dual" intakes like this:


Terrible setup, you're sucking in hot air rising off the exhaust manifolds...
