Well with the original car like treads I averaged around 15.7 to 16.5 depending on my route to work. Now with ATs on the millage dropped to 13.5 to 15.1 averages over five fill ups with the new treads. These tires are great but they’re killing me in millage. These trucks have always been crap millage as with even my 95 5.2 Dak was even worse. For the size of the truck and today’s technology you would believe it would getting far better millage but that’s not the case. A friend who now drives a 09 Tundra with the 4.7 get an average 17 to 21 mpg and that truck out weighs ours. Between the crap millage and fighting rust my once happiness with my truck is fading fast and it only two and half years old. Can you imagine this thing in another five years?

The best I've gotten on highway is 21.5 and thats at about 60. I've got the 4.7 V8 and the 3.55's. It's hard to keep your foot outta these things. I get about 12-13 in town, worse during winter. If I mix town/highway (at 60-65) I get around 16-17. I dont have more then a 10 block commute to work, so it's pretty bad sometimes. I'm just glad gas isn't that $4/gal mark.

The best I've had on a highway-only run of about 120 miles was 22.7 doing 65 about half the time and 75 the rest. Around town it drops to around 16 and my overall average is 18-19. I have noticed that my mileage has not been as good with the hot weather--maybe the compressor makes a difference.

Mine is an 05 QC 287 4wd 3.55 with no mods

These are real numbers and they surprise me. I bought this truck to replace my 97 Ram 1/2 with 360 that got--at best--16 mpg, and did not expect this to be much different because it weighs about the same.

Just finished my first tank since I bought the truck. It is a 4x4 08 with the 4.7L V8. Got 14mpg, all in town driving. I am coming from a 5.9L R/T so I am used to these mileages. Actually, I was getting that much with the R/T. Haven't take it out of town yet.

Another puzzling matter to me is how the V6, 4.7L V8 and the Hemi all get about the same mileage? Did the engineering teams talk to each other?

Maybe so, who knows? I would like to know more about the new V6s, 4.7Ls and new Hemi's. Good stuff.

I used to own 2 2nd Gen Dakotas, but now I drive a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP... supercharged 3.8L V6....stock numbers are 20 city, 27hwy.

I've got a friend who's got about 350hp at the wheels in his Grand Prix, tuned by the same guy I'm about to have tune my car, and he's getting 30+mpg hwy still...

Bottom line, you might consider looking around and finding a decent motor guy who can tune your vehicle properly. Some of the vehicles I've seen tuned have had dramatic increases in fuel economy once done right...

It seems very strange to me that you guys can get such poor gas mileage. My 2005 V8, auto, 3.55 gears gets 17.5+ in town. There are probably fewer traffic lights here than in N.J. or Ca. but I don't pay any attention to driving with a light foot and always get about the same mileage. On a trip from DFW to Ruidoso N.M. a few weeks ago, driving on very flat west Texas roads at 70-75, it got 22.1 mpg. I've got a CAI and Flowmaster SUV single exhaust but I don't think these mods make any difference to mileage.
