CAI and 3.7
i am currently using the K&N drop in filter. and was looking at the CAI part # 63-1558 the web site dynos a raider and shows a 9.22 hp @ 4200 rpm.
i was wondering if any other 3.7 drivers were useing and what to expect out of real world power and gas milage.

i was more looking at $$ vs improvement and trieng to weight my optgions right now i am pretty happy with the drop in. i was hoping some one else had used both and could tell me what diff the seen between the drop in and the kit.
I had it, and sold it. I had the plastic series, the one that claimed most hp gain.
I noticed nothing. Realistically, you wouldnt notice 5hp. Also, I gained NO mpg. The stock intake and paper filter would have to be starving the engine of air for an intake to give a vehicle more mpg. The intake really only gives the small hp gain at the top end of the rpm range, so technically it helps flow a little better in the 4000-5000rpm range. So there is no way anyone is gaining any MPG with an intake setup.
The only time I feel an intake is worth its cost, is when its going into an application with forced induction that has a bad intake setup from the get go. If I remember correctly, the SRT4 is a worth while application for an intake. Most all turbo applications will net a healthy gain with an intake kit.
I wouldnt invest in one for the 3.7L.
But there IS a HP gain with them, so if thats what your after, then go for it.

no i was looking for more mpg if possible. am getting close to 18 mpg and would like to push it ti overf 20 if poss. i know it is probly just a dream but would be nice to suceed
Adjust your driving style. That is the only guaranteed way to gain MPG. Intake and exhaust are marginal at best. My truck averaged 18.1 last tank.

Well, I had an interesting idea. From most people's feedback, the CAI is not worth it for us 3.7L owners. However, lets take a look at what you get from installing a CAI.
Better airflow
Reusable filter element
Better gas milage (opinion, most claim that this does not do anything)
Cool "suck in air" sound when free reving the engine.
One should consider cost vs. benifit here. So I did.
I put in a K&N drop in filter. $40.00
Took out the factory air box and cut two healthy sized holes. $free
Didn't notice any power difference, didn't gain any gas milage, but got the cool "suck in air sound". Winner. And yes, the holes were located so that when I splash through big puddles, I am ok.
