Question Clicking noise (card in bicycle spokes)

2005 SLT 4x4 V8 Quad-cab

It's most noticeable when the engine is cold. Clicks while sitting still, clicking increases with RPM increase. It doesn't appear to affecting performance. No warning lights.

Sounds like a playing card in the spokes of a kids bicycle.

I think it might be an exhaust leak. I had a '88 S-10 many years ago and had a similar problem.

Many thanks in advance,
Cody

most likely. my 06 is doing it on the driver's side. our wonderful trucks are known to break studs.

First I would check your down pipes and ensure they are tightly bolted to ensure the leak isn't comming from the flanges. Then I would check your manifold bolts. It the leak is at the manifold and tightening them down doesn't work. You might want to conisder changing the gasket.

Hit any really deep puddles lately? I did a few years back, and heard the leak the following morning. I guess it caused the manifold to crossover studs to stretch or something, because all I had to do was tighten them.

its almost a positive header leak. im fixing mine right now. when the engine is cold reach down and wiggle your heat shield. bet ya it will move. it wont affect performance too bad until the leak gets bad enough to mess up the scatter effect. than youll feel the loss.

actually...i should take pics and do a header stud replacement thread?

Manifold (header) leak. Just did mine...twice. Make sure you, or the shop that does it replaces all of the studs, or you will just have the same problem again. I did.

Default Cost $$$

Does anyone know how much getting this fixed/replaced will cost. I doubt its covered by warranty but I'll check any way.

Thanks for the inputs,
Cody

It depends on if they need to extract a stud. Low end would be $200 to just replace a gasket. $250 - $300 if they need to tap anything out. $350 - $400 if they replace all of the studs.
