Default Need a quick schoolin on Dak radios

Hey Guys, I got an 05 Dak, I want to switch to a newer OEM radio that I can use an MP3 player or Ipod with. I've seen a lot about REF, RES, RAQ and other acronyms, but I have no idea what that means. I'm hoping all I have to do is swap em' out and plug and play, but some people have told me something about programming codes from the dealership or sometimes they don't work or they are not compatible. Can someone straighten me out and give the the real deal. This shouldn't be rocket science, or am I totally missing something?

05 is most definitely the low speed bus. It's possible to swap out to a MyGig head unit (touchscreen with hard drive in dash) using an adapter but they're generally pretty pricey unless you find a steal on one like I did on eBay.

Eric,
Thanks for the info, I'd really prefer one that has jacks in the back to I could bring it through the side of the radio bezel where I want to mount my pod, but I'll take what I can get.

Altair,
I'm gonna have to look up MyGig head units. That sounds pretty cool, especially if it has a GPS option. I like upgrades, but I'm trying to keep a clean look. Other than the head unit, I'm only lookin to get some good speakers that have good range and can put out some bass (possibly componants), throw a 400-600 watt 4-channel amp under the rear seat and leave it at that. Although, touch screen sounds sexy.

Oh yeah, to both you guys (who know way tons more than I do obviously) what is a low-high speed bus, why does it matter, and how can I tell the difference?

If it makes any difference i got a factory radio from ebay with aux port on front and it works perfect. I don't use an ipod so there is no point to getting a radio with ipod support so thats why i went that way.

I thought the stock radios came with the AUX port in front? What was the base model stock radio then?

Well, from what I was told at the dealership when I asked about it (got my truck off ebay, go figure) there were two models of radios in 05, one that had mp3/ipod capability and one that didn't, mine happened to be the latter. Basically told me I'd have to get a whole new radio. I was checking out this site www.oemautopartsco.com and they seem to have some great deals on new, used and refurbished MyGig systems, w/ or w/o nav, all the adapters for mp3/ipod, rear cam set ups, and so on. I'm gonna keep lookin but so far this is a great start. Thanks again guys for all the great info! God I love forums.

None of the '05's had an auxillary port. My top of the line plays MP3's but you have to put them on a CD and play them thru the changer. OLD SCHOOL, huh?
BTW, what is this Ipod I keep hearing about?
