MBRP Exhaust for Dakota; From the Beginning
My new catback came today!
For me this is the first time I ever got an aftermarket exhaust, and I would like to go through my experience from getting the box on my doorstep, to listening to it on my truck. MBRP is a brand that I found very hard to find any information from buyers that used them on gas trucks, so I figured it would be a help to anyone who was looking for a new exhaust but wanted something different than Flowmaster or Magnaflow.
To start, the details of the exhaust:
MBRP Pro Series Cool Dual Catback System
T304 Stainless with 2.5" exits and dual wall tips
Lifetime Warranty
Paid $519.95 w/ free shipping
It shipped via FedEx and arrived at my door within 7 days of placing my order. Shipping weight was 61 pounds, and it was all exhaust! After opening the box, there where 3 pieces of foam on the top with the exhaust underneath; no other packaging material. The tubing, muffler, tips, and a bag of clamps were scattered throughout the box and allowed to clank around during shipping. Nothing was damaged, so I'm happy.
The first thing I noticed about the exhaust is it looks like it came right from a muffler shop, and they just forgot to install it on the truck. The pipes and muffler are full of oil and finger prints. The pipes are scratched from the mandrel bender, and the muffler looks hand welded. It doesnt bother me though, as it goes underneath the truck. I think it is pretty cool to see something made with actual quality, and wasnt made by an automated system. Everything is heavy, and nothing seems to be cheap. This system was built like a tank.
Ill take pictures of the system set up on my basement floor, and let the pictures do the rest of the talking. I havent decided if Im going to get this professionally installed, or do it myself yet as it seems quite intimidating. But once it is on the truck, more pictures will be posted. Ill also do videos of idleing, reving, drivebys, and in-the-cab rides. It should be on my truck by March 6th.
And as a final note, I just wanted to say I am in no way trying to put down my new exhaust, or other brands. This is all from an opinion of a 19 year old who has never seen an out of the box system (seriously), so I have nothing to compare it to. Any comments are welcome, along with any requests for pictures or questions regarding the exhaust or my experience. Thanks for reading everyone, and Ill keep you up to date.

Im going to autozone tomorrow to pick up my new SC Cortex so Im going to look at their exhaust section. Im definetly going to pick up some penetrating lubricant, and maybe some exhaust sealer. And Im going to look at what they have for clamps, because maybe there is something better, but Im not sure. All I know, is aleast they didnt supply the band clamps that come with the installer series. People seem to have alot of problems with their exhuast falling apart with those. Time will tell.

Thanks everyone! I cant wait to get it on. I really wanted to save the stock exhaust incase I ever want to sell the truck being its a full stainless system, but I think Im going to just end up chopping it off. Its got some rust on it, so if it doesnt pull off easy, Im not going to waste my time.
It should be pretty intersting though. I cant keep my foot out it now, and Im adding a cortex and an exhaust. Good news is I dont worry about gas mileage, as I wouldnt have bought a truck if I did. Just hopefully the neighbors wont hate me for my new exhaust.
