Default Factory y pipe size...dynamax 2.5 catback

I don't have my truck right now, and couldn't find it in a search but am trying to order parts.

Going to buck the 3" catback trend and go with the single 2.5" dynomax catback. Should be great for my low to mid RPM use. I do want to upgrade the factory y-pipe at the collector, though. I am wanting to use the following Magnaflow collector, but don't know which size to order. I assume 2" piping for the factory Y pipe?

I assume 2" piping for the factory Y pipe?

Anybody have the dynomax cat back? I'm hoping it won't be too loud. Ideally it would be just a tad louder than stock.

Thanks

Sorry for double post

The factory y-pipe is 2" O.D.

I've attached a picture to show how much room you have. Notice the location of the O2 sensor, as you'll want to cut behind that with enough room to weld in the new one.

Thanks for the pic and the info, much appreciated. I might just have a shop fab up a new collector, but am going to go ahead and order the prefabbed one...but getting the flowmaster y-collector looks like a better fit http://www.jegs.com/p/Flowmaster/Flo...44773/10002/-1

That O2 sensor is in an interesting spot. I'll have my truck this afternoon, might try to run it by a muffler shop...just wish I knew of a good one locally.

My stock was 2" downpipes into a 2.5" or 3" that ran all the way back.

The Magnaflow looks like a better fit in the limited space available.

Really? Hmm, I need to look at it again in person. I was thinking the flowmaster looked a bit better for the job.

I made a $5 gamble today at a junkyard, and I think it might pay off.

Was scrounging around an early 4.7 Durango (~'01) and found what seems to be the factory y pipe sitting in the back seat. The collector is much better on this one, very similar to the flowmaster. Looks to be the same sizes and will hopefully mate up nicely.

It's not quite as pretty as the flowmaster, but close and it is likely made of stainless. I'm taking it an exhaust shop in the morning to see if they would rather work with this or if they can, and would rather, build one at least as nice instead. Unfortunatley, I can only use the collector and not the whole y-pipe (no cats or 4wd clearance).

Will post pics of it later if anyone is interested.

Yep, I had it backwards but I see you got lucky in the junkyard so it really doesn't matter! Let us know how the Durango piece works and post a picture if you can.

It's a little prettier than it appears. It does crimp down a bit before the collector, but no more than anywhere else. My camera's battery is shot so I only have moments to take and load pics. No good interior shots yet.
