Default Gear whine anyone?

As of late I am hearing what sounds like gear whine, starting at 30mph. Very subdued and only I can hear it. I also feel a kind of faint scratch/rumble under my right foot coming through the floor, but only when leaving from a standstill. I may be paranoid but just wondering if the source might be the transfer box or something.

I have an 08 with the same issue. Its getting worse. It almost feels like a torque converter is going bad, and now every now and it shifts funny.

My transmission is fine. Do others in the car notice it or is it just you? If in fact something is going I'd rather it escalate faster. As it is now I doubt the dealer would acknowledge there is anything wrong.

Welcome to DF G3 Dakotas. That sucks, especially with a truck that new.

My original stall never gave me any trouble, its in the garage in a box. Its just the new edge is so much better at putting power to the wheels.

08 is talking about his torque converter being the cause of his problems. I was saying my stock torque converter never gave me any trouble. I only replaced mine with a higher RPM torque converter (stall) for performance.

If yours is gears, then that is a totally different ball game. Do you have a 9.25 diff?

I really don't know what I have. I don't think transmission would make that kind of noise. It is not unlike tire noise. May be to some extent it is normal.

Count the bolts on the differential. If you have 12 you have a 9.25 rear.

Bumping this: I just did front and rear diff changes to Mobil1- got a reasonable whine, almost sounds from both front and back. I did add slip additive, good for ATF+4....

is there a difference b/t that and friction modifier?

I have also heard that if you are just a little lowon fluid on these trucks they will whine.

When i bought my second (the gray) dakota, IT had a little whine from the front, and it was the ring and pinion. They didnt set the backlash properly. Heck it didnt have any. the gears were mashed together. You might wanna considder getin them looked at / replaced. But thats on a 4x4 and i would immagine that the rear end would have the same problems.
