Default Truck died on highway

Doing 70 mph on northbound 61 earlier tonight heading back from STL airport, and the truck died on me. I had the cruise set and all of a sudden she just stalled, the radio went out and all gauge needles fell. I got no check engine lights or anything, it was like the truck was still running (except tach and speedo on 0). I have not checked the OBD, but I don't think it threw a code to read.

The gauge cluster back light stayed on (although this light does seem to flicker some). I fear a bad ground with this, but not sure if it is related to the problem of the truck stalling because this was still powered on when the truck and radio died.

I pulled to the side of the road, and she fired right back up and I had no further trouble. Any thoughts on the problem or what I should check next? I'll start looking for loose ground connections, but those buggers can hide anywhere. First time she has let me down, but at least she fired right back up (for now).

Check all fuses related to the ignition system. If one of them becomes loose your truck can shut down.

Speedo and Tach not working and the truck was still running? Could be a module going bad. I had to replace the Front Control Module in my pickup. Went out one day inexplicably after I tried to start it in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Got Chrysler to pay for it out of Warranty after arguing with them about it.

Its a square metallic module with two inputs on it located on the backside of the fusebox. Not sure if this is your issue but if you continue to have problems you might mention it to your shop if you have to take it in. When mine when out my dash lights were constantly on along with my headlights and parking lights. I also had no functioning guages and I could not tell what gear I was in by the display. Truck ran perfectly though.

No the truck was not running, just rolling. But I will check this out too thanks.

Does anyone else have a cluster back light that flickers? Thanks for info all.

This sounds promising. Whats the going price on a crank position sensor?
