do you really need the fan controller? can you just run it directly so that it turns on as soon you start up the engine? i ask because back in the 80's with my last RX7 i did that mod and never used a fan controller. it was wired direct to a constant current wire that turned it on as soon i started the engine!

It would defeat the purpose of the extra HP you gain. You gain the HP when the fan is off and the truck is moving. IF two fans created the same flow rate, and both were constantly powered, technically they should both require the same amount of energy to run. So, an e-fan that constanly runs puts drag on the alternator, which is just as bad as having your stock fan. This is atleast how I see it. If you use a fan that doesnt flow as well as the stock fan, then you have a different story.

i was on spalusa.com looking at the fan controllers.

http://www.spalusa.com/store/main.as...tem=FAN-PWM-V3

Is this all that would be needed to get everything hooked up?

And if it is, is there somewhere good that has them for any lower prices?

Thanks

I thought that the hp gain was because the fan wasn't attached to the front of the engine, causing drag on the engine. I think the electric fan would only cause a load on the engine when it first would start up. Besides that, I couldn't see how it would decrease the HP gain.

Any idea what the amp draw on fan start up and constant run?

That is exactly correct. The stock clutch fan steals power from the crank so you get that back once you pull that sucker off.

From what I've read its 30 amps on start up and 19.5 during normal every day driving.

How's it working for you so far Blown? Taking my efan off tomorrow night and putting back in the clutch fan for towing the trailer this week. Had the truck down the highway and temps were starting to climb, but my efan has no proper shroud around it. Just the stock shroud, so that fan looks good with a shroud and everything on it allready.

So far it's been great. I haven't tried towing with it but I've made several WOT runs in 90 degree temps and my coolant temp never got over 180 so I'm very happy with it so far.
