Default 160 degree t-stat

Has anyone tried a Mopar 160* thermostat, or is this too cool for our trucks?

160 is too cool for electronic fuel injection. The coolant has to reach a certain temperature before the computer will switch into closed loop. It would basically be like you're running the choke on a carb the entire time you're driving if the computer can't switch to closed loop. I think the temp for the switch is around 180, cause I have a 180 in my truck and it throws the open loop code sometimes in the winter.

Wouldn't that put unecessary added strain on your cooling system (fluid, water pump, fan, etc.).

This is true but just because it has a 160 doesn't mean it will run at 160. I had a 160 stat on my last truck but the truck always ran between 178-185. The stock 180 ran around 190-195. Also running the 160 will lower your mpg. keep the stock stat.

o.k. Thanks guys, I was just wondering how cool we could run our engines. But I do know too cool is not any good for an engine.

A 160 will just open a little sooner you will still probably run around 180 average temp or so.
